The fixed line becomes a fully integrated multimedia provider

Amman: Sunday 18 January 2004

In a spearheading step on a regional level, Jordan Telecom began its extensive preparations to launch Integrated Multimedia Service Platform (IMSP) in Jordan by mid 2004.

IMSP is an integration of  image and sound services through a user-friendly interface, both cost effective and reliable in terms of yielding unmatched Television and Internet experience.

Deriving on France Telecom's expertise, Jordan Telecom  will be the first country in the region that adopts this technology.  CEO Laurent Mialet explained that the new technology, is of the most advanced services and technologies used in the world.  France Telecom, he said, has launched this service in 2004, making France the first country in the world that offers TV transmission through ADSL lines.  Yet such technologies would have never been made possible had it not been for Jordan Telecom's advanced ICT infrastructure that matches those in advanced countries.  "with continued support from France Telecom, and dependence on qualified Jordanian expertise" we continue to offer the best, Mialet added.

The consumer has become in this age, the pioneer in demanding most of these applications, such as video on demand, select TV transmissions, image exchanges, e-games through the telephone, all being possible due to the solid and advanced JT infrastructure that Jordan Telecom has.

"With the broadband access reaching almost everyone, the possibilities are bound by the socio-economic development of Jordan and our imagination." Said Luc Savage, Chief Strategic Officer at JT.   IMSP connects your TV, computer and phone via one, ultra-speed access line, Savage added.  It is a multimedia gateway, placed at users premises that connects different devices to the network platform, thus responding to user demands.

For example, you stayed late at work and missed a live game of your favorite soccer team.  With this technology, you can easily select to download or stream the game via the set top box, which delivers it to your television after receiving it from the multimedia gateway.

The development of this technology relies on the advanced operational expertise of France Telecom, the advanced network of Jordan Telecom and the inspiration of the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah to make Jordan an information-based society.

Its success brings our "Hello to the future" promise to life by empowering people with infinite choices and enabling them to not only say hello to the future, but rather to interact with it today.
