The Information Technology Association of Jordan - int@j with support from the USAID Jordan Economic Development Program - SABEQ coordinated a multi-company contract for 7 Jordanian IT companies to implement the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) certification program.
The program started in the last quarter of 2009, and the assessment, improvement and certification implementation is to span approximately 12 months, and to be completed by December 2010.
CMMI® was launched by the Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie Mellon University in the USA. It is an improvement approach that provides organizations with essential elements of effective processes. It is applicable in guiding process improvement within a project, a division, or an entire organization. In addition, CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes and offer a point of reference for appraising current processes.
CMMI® is currently considered the most widely accepted and adopted process improvement approach worldwide. It is known to provide organizations with the latest best practices for product and service development and maintenance, to improve quality of and surpass the competition in all phases of the product lifecycle, from product conception to deployment, achieve greater speed and agility and beat the competition in introducing new and enhanced features and technology, and reduce cost so that products can be offered at a lower price than the competition.
Implementing CMMI mandates that companies go through a number of procedures and diagnostic assessments. Acquiring the CMMI certificate is an advantage to each company as it improves quality, productivity, schedule and budget predictability, increases customer satisfaction, return on investment and innovation and raises the ability to manage risks.
The Jordanian companies implementing this program are Optimiza, Estarta, BEAT, Specialized Technical Services (STS), Primus, Adaptive Tech Soft (ATS) and ESKADENIA. The seven companies will go through the multi-phases of the program which include gap analysis, public workshops, improvement and consultation phase, pre-audit assessments and certification.
int@j, is an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry-support association, founded in 2000 with the aim to improve the dynamics of Jordan's ICT market and develop the Kingdom's ICT related activities, and includes more than 175 local and global companies working in IT, Telecom, and IT enabled services (Outsourcing).
