Internal Audit and Risk Management Conference to bridge the disconnect between expectation and expertise from internal auditors.
The role of the internal auditor is one that is ever evolving and expanding to not just evaluate risk or focus on compliance issues but also to drive business and offer strategic insight. Following this overview, a recent study by Forbes Insight reports that 28% of executives currently serve in a more strategic capacity, whilst 54% are expected to be a strategic advisor as part of their primary role in the next two years.
The Forbes study also highlights that executives feel skills which are important to assess and manage risks are areas where auditors have the least competency. The Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Internal Auditors and Risk Management Conclave is a niche conference that will bridge the disconnect between what is expected and what expertise is currently required for internal auditors. Besides understanding the role of the Internal Audit in the energy sector in the Middle East, the conference will also evaluate how to effectively manage risk and improve internal audit through technology.
Key highlight at the conference will be a workshop conducted by Mark Mitchell of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority(NYSERDSA). Mitchell's workshop session will identify steps required to develop and deploy a organization wide risk assessment that internal audit will facilitate and validate using Microsoft Excel 2003 or 2007. Mitchell has been an internal audit executive for over 18 years and currently serves as the Director of Internal Audit at NYSERDA.
Supported by the Belgian Maintenance Association, the conference is scheduled for the 7 - 8 October 2013 at the Park Rotana Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Roger Hickman, Executive Director of Finance at Qatar International Petroleum Marketing Company(Tasweeq) is schedule to deliver the Keynote Speech at the conference.
