Global corporate security market doubles in size in six years; estimated to be worth US$ 235 million by 2012
DUBAI: The popularity of access control systems using contactless smart cards is set to increase significantly in the world of corporate and commercial security. Governments and commercial establishments are increasingly deploying smart card-driven technology within their security and access control systems.
According to recent industry figures*, the world corporate security market is expected to grow to around US$ 235 million in 2012, double the size of what it was in 2006. The Middle East, with its growing emphasis on security and safety, is becoming an increasingly significant market for the latest in security systems.
Apart from corporate houses, government and military installations, educational institutions and sensitive sites, contactless smart card driven access control systems are being increasingly employed at events and locations where a large number of people need to be processed quickly. These systems are now increasingly in use at major sports events, concerts, mass transit systems and large conferences, where crowd control and security are of the essence.
"The use of smart cards that can be used in multi-functional roles such as to control access, data storage and proof of identity are becoming increasingly popular in this region," said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, organiser of Intersec Trade Fair and Conference - the largest safety and security event outside of Europe.
"The flexibility of this technology means that a single smart card can fulfil multiple functions acting as credit cards, ATM cards, identity cards, driving licence and access/exit passes to name a few. This also allows for better monitoring and tracking of people and results in more efficient security coverage," he added.
"Intersec 2011 will put leading manufacturers and suppliers of the latest access control systems in touch with the large pool of potential clients in this region, where the security and policing industry is in high-growth mode," Pauwels said.
HID Global will feature their newly launched complete family of secure contactless payment and identification stickers during Intersec. The stickers make it easy to add closed-loop payment and loyalty systems to existing systems as well as augment campus identification systems with new access control capabilities. Other exhibitors with a range of smart card and access control product launches during Intersec include Sesam, L-Identity Solutions and Tyco Security.
Intersec 2011, which will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, from January 16 to 18, will feature the latest in security systems, surveillance and policing technology, advances in crowd control and monitoring systems, and the latest in health and safety developments.
The trade event, which is among the most representative of its kind around the world, makes a significant impact on the health and safety, fire and rescue, security and policing, aviation and homeland security industries in the Middle East region. It attracts trade buyers, leading decision makers, designers and developers and government officials who shape legislation to meet the region's security environment.
