Intel holds a special event celebrating the completion of its first TEO course

Cairo, Egypt, October 16, 2006 - Intel Corporation and the Egyptian Ministry of Education today held a special awarding ceremony to celebrate the 35 teachers who have completed the first Intel "Teach Essentials Online" (TEO) program. The global TEO program is set to provide Egyptian teachers, as well as teachers worldwide, the necessary educational tools to assist them in incorporating technology in to the regular school curriculum.

"Intel is very proud to be here today to celebrate the first graduates of Intel's Teach Essentials Online program, and to have Egypt be the first country selected worldwide to launch the program," said Khaled Elamrawi, Intel's General Manager for Egypt, Levant and North Africa. "I sincerely thank H.E. Dr Yousry El Gamal and the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Communications and Information technology for their support in launching Teach Essentials Online. Now we look forward to increasing the Intel TEO training in Egypt in order to reach our goal, which is to provide Teach Essentials Online to every teacher in the country."

Intel's Teach Essentials Online will have a big impact on students' education in Egypt and around the world, as well as shape the learning environment of classrooms as a whole. The program is one of a number of schemes Intel is undertaking in Egypt as part of its Digital Transformation Initiative in the Middle East and under its global "World Ahead Program," which aims at transforming lives in developing communities through technology access, internet connectivity and education. The Digital Transformation Initiative is part of a long-term plan to provide educational opportunities, create jobs and provide important IT support to local businesses throughout Egypt and the Middle East. The aim is to aid in the growth of the IT market and the improvement of economies in developing countries.

It was just last month that Intel launched its worldwide Teach Essentials Online program. As Egypt is the first country to preview it, the TEO program is designed in Arabic, specifically for the region, and was developed in collaboration with Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. "Investing in our children's education is investing in Egypt's future," said Dr. El Gamal. "So by investing in how and what our children learn, we are paving the way for generations to come."

The Intel TEO follows the establishment of the Egypt Education Initiative (EEI) announced at the World Economic Forum in Sharm El Sheikh last May. As part of there commitment to the EEI and to improving the education sector in Egypt, Intel has pledged among many other things, to donate 8,000 PC's to schools in Egypt and to train 650,000 teachers in Egypt by 2010."

So far, Intel has trained 54,000 teachers in Egypt within the Intel Teach to The Future (TTF) program that began in May 2004. Now the Intel TTF will also include Intel's Teach Essentials Online.
