Receives full support from DCCI and forms a five-member 'preliminary' committee
Dubai, UAE, June 30, 2004: A new business group covering Dubai-based insurance companies was formed recently as part of an initiative introduced by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry to provide its members with additional services and support.
A large number of insurance companies took part in the sector's first general assembly held at DCCI's headquarters earlier this week. The meeting was headed by DCCI's Director General, Abdul Rahman Al Mutaiwee, and Fahad Gargawi, Director of Trade Services and Industrial Development.
In his welcoming address, Al Mutaiwee reiterated the Chamber's commitment to its members: "The formation of various business groups is a collective effort that reflects DCCI's new business strategy - a strategy that concentrates on enhancing our practices, services, and overall performance."
He added: "The process of forming business groups has so far gone through three main phases; the total number of business groups that have been formed so far is 18."
Fahad Gargawi provided attendees with a general overview of the business groups already established, and the various facilities and services offered by the Chamber. He also recommended that the newly established Insurance Business Group elect a representative committee at a subsequent meeting.
Delegates agreed to form a 'preliminary' committee that would be responsible for deciding how many members should sit on the representative committee, and the various sectors and sub-sectors of the insurance industry to be represented by the committee. The preliminary committee members chosen by a show of hands were:
- Omar Hassan Al Amin MD, Arab Orient Insurance Company
- A. Bolurfrushan MD, Arya Insurance Brokerage Co.
- Khalid Habib Al Redha GM, Insurance Service Management
- Paul Holmes Country Manager, Norwich Union Insurance
- Fareed Lutfi GM, Aman Insurance
The preliminary committee agreed to chair a general assembly meeting on July 19 to elect members of the group's representative committee.
