Dubai: UAE- 13 February, 2007- The International Media Production Zone (IMPZ), a member of TECOM Investments, has invested AED 62 million to set up a dedicated power substation to provide electricity to all developments within the free zone.

Dedicated to the graphic art, printing, publishing and packaging industries, the free zone has received three 50-MVA power transformers to step down the 132,000 volts, arriving through underground lines from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's Jebel Ali power station, to the usable distribution voltage level of 11,000 volts on site.

Hamad Huraiz, Executive Director of IMPZ said: "The substation complex is an integral component of the free zone's infrastructure. It will help us meet the operational requirements of our partners. The new facility will ensure early power feed for business partners in the free zone.

"The efficient infrastructure is an essential component of our commitment towards our business partners. IMPZ is keen to develop a professional hassle-free environment that enables our partners to grow their businesses both regionally and internationally out of Dubai."

IMPZ said the high voltage gas insulated indoor substations would ensure the early arrival of electrical power to the projects currently underway on site.

The substation is 65 per cent complete with all major equipment including the transformers already on site and ready for installation.

DEWA has scheduled to lay the final 450 m length of 132kV cable from the Emirates Road to the substation located in the heart of IMPZ by mid April 2007. This will allow the commencement of testing and commissioning procedures prior to handing over the substation to DEWA for further use by business partners within IMPZ.

Construction work at IMPZ is progressing according to schedule. Over 75 per cent of the basic infrastructure including roads and utility facilities has been completed.  Electrical power will be available for IMPZ business partners by 1 September 2007.

IMPZ offers diverse investment opportunities to international companies seeking to establish a footprint in the region. It also opens new horizons for regional companies seeking to expand their business internationally. The combination of Dubai's strong logistical infrastructure and IMPZ's business friendly environment makes the free zone one of the most attractive investment platforms in the spectrum of media production industries.
