In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TEDxMuscat comes to Oman's Millennium Resort on the 3rd of May 2011. The independently produced event, operated under license from TED, connects people who love and value ideas, who believe in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world.
At a TEDx event, live speakers and TEDTalks video combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. In essence TEDx is part of a revolution in global learning made possible by local organizers who want to engage their communities.
"At TEDxMuscat, we are bringing TED-like ideas to Oman," said Satyabrata Acharya, TEDxMuscat Host. "TEDx is a platform to engage curious minds, showcase innovative thinkers and share new ideas."
TEDx's success is based on the extraordinary effect of bringing together world's most remarkable people. The result? Unexpected connections. Startling insights. Powerful inspiration. TEDxMuscat is following same path and guideline to bring a similar kind of experience.
TEDx attendees may come from many different fields, but they have one thing in common: they're influencers, game-changers and leaders. Whether they're entrepreneurs or inventors, philanthropists or philosophers, TEDx is a meeting place for those at the forefront of cultural, social and technological change.
Arun Raj Co-Host and TED Fellow, said "TEDxMuscat is more than a conference; it's a community of people who have a passion for knowledge, a desire to better our world and the ability to dream big. At TEDx, like minds find each other to begin friendships, collaborate on projects and to champion each other's successes."
Seats at TEDxMuscat are limited and it is an invitation-only event. Interested attendees have to go through an online registration process at www.tedxmuscat.com.

About TEDx
TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events which bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, like TEDxMuscat, are self-organized.
About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives.
The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide.
TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to organize local, independent TED-like events around the world; and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
