Launches comprehensive range of innovative and powerful solutions to enable smarter telecoms with smarter services
Abu Dhabi, UAE - 28th May 2009: IBM Middle East today announced the launch of its telecom services portfolio at the MECOM 2009 event where they were the Gold Sponsor. IBM's speakers at the event also discussed the issues and challenges in communications and the opportunities for companies to push ahead of the competition with 'Smarter Telecoms' solutions.

Throughout the Middle East, the telecom sector is experiencing growth as governments' invest into expanding and improving infrastructure and another strategic focus for the event was the launch of IBM's telecom services portfolio which comes at a time when companies are looking for smarter more cost effective ways to do business. IBM's comprehensive range of innovative and powerful solutions for the telecoms sector are intended to advance new use of technology for solving complex business and industry challenges as well as helping to streamline business processes enabling them to become smarter more competitive entities. As part of the launch IBM was showcasing a number of industry vertical solutions including healthcare comms technology such as 'remote patient monitoring'; a system which allows medical devices to connect through mobile devices to a backend healthcare application to allow remote monitoring of medical measurements. Telecom enablers like WAP push, SMS, conference call, presence and orchestration services allow the medical staff to immediately communicate with the patient while browsing the latest measurements. As Consumers demand seamless connectivity from anywhere at anytime, mobile devices are becoming a personal window to commerce, entertainment, and communications, and as a result are changing the way we interact with one another and consume data. IBM's showcased solutions enable telecoms companies to improve service quality & customer experience for the sector as well as offer new innovative services to such as Rapid Service Assembly using Mashups; a, mashup technology which enables telecom operators to build prototypes for new services. Also highlighted was Service Delivery Platform which allows operators to expose their enablers to outside developer communities. An example of a service build on top of these enablers is BuddyComm. BuddyComm is a facebook (i.e. social network) application that adds telco services like messaging (SMS, MMS) or voice conference calls to the social network.
In addition to showcasing products and services from IBM, Scott D. Ramsey, CDRP, CISM IBM BCRS Global Team at IBM spoke on the first day of the conference Monday 25th May 2009 (Day 1) about Disaster Recovery, Continuity of Operations and Resiliency Planning within Downstream Processing as well as discussing the current situation of the ICT industry and the future challenges in store as companies look to consolidate and streamline enabling them to become smarter and more effective. On Tuesday 26th May 2009 (Day 2), Dag Krogdhal, IBM Global Business Services Industrial Sector Leader, IBM Middle East & North Africa discussed 'Enhancing Public Services via Smarter Communications' to enable smarter decision-making across governments, agencies and other constituents.On the third day of the conference 27th May 2009 (Day 3), Sarah Arnold, GTS Strategy & Architecture, Middleware and End-user Service Product Line Leader, IBM Middle East and North Africa discussed IT Optimization.
MECOM 09, the only dedicated "Communications for Enterprise" trade show and conference in the Middle East was held in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi from 25th - 27th May at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). MECOM is a central event for the leading communication technology and solution providers in the region, with the exhibition presenting a unique opportunity for firms to initiate serious contacts amongst leading market players.
