Dubai - Humanscale, the leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance ergonomic products, today announced a strategic agreement with BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a leading global medical technology company, to further optimize the medication management process for the pharmacy and nursing industries. By securing medication delivery via a mobile medication cart, the integration will improve patient safety and enhance clinical workflows.

The solution is being showcased for the first time at Arab Health 2019 and will be available in Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America and New Zealand.

The MedSync Mobile Technology Cart is specifically designed to integrate with BD Pyxis™ ES System to create a fully closed-loop medication system. The combination of these two cutting edge solutions will greatly improve patient safety by automatically assigning a medication drawer to a patient and increasing overall accountability by assuring that every event in the medication transportation workflow is accurately recorded.

The Journal of Evaluation of Clinical Practice noted in a May 2014 article that a one year study undertaken in France concluded the use of automated drug dispensing units reduced the overall rate of medical administration errors by 53%.1

"With the expanded ability to manage and deliver medication by the bedside, BD can now provide a more comprehensive integrated solution for medication management in markets where mobile carts are part of the clinical workflow," said Jason Strohm, worldwide Vice President and General Manager of Dispensing and Preparation Technologies for BD. "As part of our purpose of advancing the world of health, we strive to provide health care workers with the solutions required to provide timely and safe care to their patients. Through this partnership, we are delivering a solution that will help our customers focus on patient safety, reducing medication errors and streamlining workflows.

The Humanscale MedSync Mobile Technology Cart is an innovative medication delivery solution that streamlines complex nursing workflows and complements bedside medication administration to reduce errors and improve outcomes in healthcare environments.

The system assists caregivers in keeping track of patients and patient medications to ensure secure administration, while aiding pharmacy efficiency and compliance.

The BD Pyxis™ ES System optimizes medication management and timely administration by delivering the right drug, in the right dose, at the right time, to the right patient. The streamlined secure workflow integration between BD Pyxis™ ES System and Humanscale MedSync reduces the cognitive workload of the nurses in the clinical environment. The Humanscale MedSync software is exclusive for BD Pyxis™ ES System customers designed to further enhance the nursing workflow by automatically assigning a drawer to a newly admitted patient.

"When it comes to patient safety, our partnership with BD is revolutionary,” said Heather Fennimore, Founder, President, Global Healthcare at Humanscale. “Combining MedSync with Pyxis™ ES System will significantly reduce the occurrence of medication errors, while allowing caregivers to focus on what truly matters–patient care."

Experience the solution and the new MedSync feature at Arab Health, Dubai, January 28 - 31, 2019 at the Humanscale booth, Hall 1, H1 C15 and at the BD booth, Sheikh Saaed Hall 3, S3 C50.
