Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 2 June , 2010: Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that, in recognition of their advancements in the commercialization and research and development of LTE technology, the company won two top awards at the LTE World Summit 2010 in Holland. These awards include "Significant Progress for a Commercial Launch of LTE by a Vendor" and "Best Contribution to Research & Development for LTE."

The LTE World Summit 2010 attracted more than one thousand attendees, including operators, vendors and organizations from across the LTE ecosystem. Huawei was selected by an independent panel of judges and honored for their significant contributions to the LTE industry chain.

Mr Zheng Xiang, Huawei Vice President for Middle East, said: "Huawei has invested heavily in the development of the LTE industry since 2004; contributing world-class LTE technologies, patents, standards and commercial experiences. Huawei also created a successful business model enabling the world's operators to remain profitable, while meeting an unprecedented demand for mobile broadband services anywhere, anytime."

In 2010, Huawei was appointed by Etisalat and Saudi Telecom Company (STC), to deploy pre-commercial LTE networks in both United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia respectively.  The first phases of the projects have been delivered successfully, offering peak downlink data rates.

As of March 2010, Huawei has been awarded more than 60 LTE contracts worldwide, including nine commercial LTE contracts. Huawei has also expanded its scope to focus on end-to-end R&D, including eNodeB, EPC (evolved packet core), terminal devices (USB/CPE) and chipsets.

Huawei shares its patent and standards achievements with industry partners in an effort to build an open, cooperative, and harmonious LTE industry environment. To date, Huawei has submitted more than 4,700 LTE/EPC standard proposal contributions to 3GPP and holds 181 LTE essential patents, accounting for 34% of the infrastructure vendors in LTE essential patents.
