A brand leader in its category and a respected and responsible corporate citizen, Shell Oman Marketing Company has always taken firm initiatives to participate and promote many such important programs that involved Shell Oman employees and members of the community.
Continuing its endeavor to promote road safety and defensive driving, Shell Oman joined hands with Royal Oman Police to raise awareness about road safety during the GCC Road Safety Week. The 6-day program from 20-26th March 2004 focused on the importance of traffic rules and road safety, under the theme 'Traffic Safety is a Collective Responsibility'.
To add momentum to the program, Free Safety Checkpoints were specially set up at a number of Shell Oman Retail Sites across the Sultanate. Vehicles were checked for safety and motorists were educated on observing safety guidelines while visiting a service station. Visitors and motorists received leaflets on safe driving tips. The safety leaflets also gave the participants a unique chance to win a car.
The Company implemented yet another innovative idea to ensure more participation in the GCC Road Safety Week. A special Children's Painting Competition has been organised to involve young minds in this important program. HSSE initiatives of Shell Oman cover every aspect of its business. As a part of this years HSSE month celebration, Shell Oman invited Dr. Nabil Barakat from the Ministry of Health to educate Shell Oman employees about Diabetes and simple ways to keep it under control. A Weight Loss Program was also conducted, which encouraged the employees to check obesity and reward the successful participants.
Involving its Forecourts, an exclusive Site Safety competition was also organised and winning Retail Sites were rewarded for maintaining excellent safety records. A similar programme was conducted with the theme 'Think Safety, Work Safely' at its Mina Al-Fahal Lube Oil Blending Plant. Safety messages were spread through posters and employees working at this world-class facility participated in seminars. As part of the WHO World Health Day initiatives, Shell Oman was one of the sponsors for the Walkathon held on the 7 of April 2004.
The event was aimed at raising awareness of the theme Road Safety is No Accident. Shell Oman also partnered with institutions like the Ministry of Health and Petroleum Development Oman in an education drive to make people aware about Down's syndrome. Specialists were invited to educate and advise affected persons suffering from this malady. With the largest retail network of 124 strategically located service stations Shell Oman constantly endeavors to serve the people of Sultanate better.
