HSBC has agreed to be the Silver Sponsor of the upcoming Careers UAE 2005 recruitment fair. Held under the auspicious of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, the exhibition will take place between 16 to 18 May at the Sheikh Rashid Hall of the Dubai World Trade Centre Complex.

"We participate in a number of career fairs in particular during the year to help students to find out more about banking as a career, and of course, about HSBC," said Fuad Shaiban, Human Resources Manager, HSBC. "In addition to receiving many applications from interested candidates during such fairs, we also maintain a good relationship with colleges and educational institutions by having regular presentations on campuses and inviting graduates to start their banking career with us."

A stand, manned by HSBC staff, will be set up at the fair to answer students' enquiries and explain the opportunities available at the Bank. Participants will have a chance to meet managers and staff members.

In February 2004, the Bank launched the "HSBC University", a unique concept for the training and career progression of UAE national staff. This scheme inducts UAE nationals into a specific job role following an agreed training and development programme. A total of 107 nationals have so far attended the HSBC University, out of almost 700 UAE nationals employed by HSBC Bank Middle East Limited.

Through HSBC's Regional Training Centre, based in Dubai, the Bank offers leading edge training programmes specially designed for UAE nationals. In addition, future UAE national executives of the Bank are given the opportunity to attend HSBC Group's Graduate

Development Programme at the Group's learning centre in the UK. Once on the job, a mentor is assigned for each UAE national for the first three years of their career with the Bank for coaching and counseling.

HSBC was a founder partner in Emiratisation.org, an association of managers launched recently, which supports the recruitment of UAE nationals in the private sector.

HSBC has received a number of awards for its success in attracting and developing UAE nationals in a banking career. The Bank has held several recruitment drives to provide young and experienced UAE nationals with the opportunity to learn about the Bank's business, as well as a chance to meet managers and staff to consult on the opportunities available for a fulfilling career.
