Company announces powerful new thin clients and HP Reference Architecture for Citrix XenDesktop
Dubai, UAE: Designed to reduce the complexity, risk and cost of remote and cloud computing deployments, HP today introduced six new solutions that simplify and enhance the functionality of its client virtualization portfolio.
The new offerings include the responsibly designed HP t5500 Series Thin Clients - now with enhanced HP Easy Tools, two Microsoft Windows® Embedded Standard 7-based thin clients and HP Reference Architecture for Citrix XenDesktop on XenServer. HP has also announced future support of Citrix XenDesktop 5 across its thin client portfolio. These product and solution enhancements will provide HP customers in remote environments with a richer, PC-like user experience and an improved ease of deployment.
"HP's flexible thin clients are ideal for any remote or cloud computing environment, and our portfolio is leading the sector's rapid evolution,"said Kobi Elbaz, Director, Client Solutions and Workstations Business Unit, EMEA, HP . "Our unique end-to-end approach to client virtualisation allows HP to develop comprehensive solutions that meet the performance and productivity needs of new and existing users while reducing the complexity and cost of deployment."
New thin client series offers options for every virtualized environment
The new HP t5550, t5565 and t5570 Thin Clients are ideal for environmentally conscious customers seeking simple, reliable computing for typical office applications and Web browsing in most client virtualization or cloud computing environments . With a choice of Microsoft Windows® Embedded Standard 2009, Windows CE Embedded 6.0 or HP ThinPro operating systems, the t5500 series are also pre-installed with the latest Citrix and Microsoft plug-ins for robust and immediate out-of-box productivity in most any environment.
Designed to minimize IT configuration and deployment challenges with HP Easy Tools - a consistent, wizard-based startup tool - thee energy-efficient HP t5500 Series Thin Clients also include standard support for enhanced multimedia, dual digital monitors, optional wireless connectivity and more. Key features:
ENERGY STAR® qualified, EPEAT™ Silver registered(1), the t5500 series is BFR/PVC-free(2) and case parts contain greater than 30% post-consumer recycled plastic.
To help simplify and speed up deployment with the Microsoft Windows® CE and HP ThinPro operating systems, the exclusive HP Easy Tools setup and configuration wizard guides users through four simple, consistent steps to get new HP thin clients up and running quickly:
HP Easy Setup provides an easy-to-follow setup process that dramatically reduces the need for documentation.
HP Easy Update Utility automatically finds and installs new images available for each specific HP Thin Client, and installs, removes or updates multiple add-ons simultaneously.
HP Easy Config Utility configures the most common settings (screen resolution, time zone, etc.), as well as creates connections for Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, VMware View, the Web, or custom connections with just a few mouse clicks.
Superscalar VIA Nano U3500 CPU and VIA VX900 Media System boost streaming media and multimedia redirection performance, plus Hardware-assisted multimedia decoding through VIA Chromotion HD 2.0 Integrated Graphics Processor ensures rich user experiences in Microsoft RDP 7, Citrix HDX and VMware View environments.
HP RDP Enhancements multimedia and USB redirection and acceleration software is included at no additional cost, ensuring rich, seamless user experiences with video, audio and a broad variety of USB devices.
Native dual digital monitor support for the sharpest graphics with DVI-I and DVI-D ports, or VGA support with included DVI-I-to-VGA adapter.
Optional, integrated enterprise-class wireless for more secure, flexible user connectivity.
Exclusive power cord retention slot prevents accidental power disconnects.
More secure, flexible performance with HP WES 7 thin clients
Planned to be available next month, Microsoft Windows® Embedded Standard 7 (WES 7) will come pre-installed on the flexible HP 4320t Mobile Thin Client and HP t5740e Thin Client, providing a richer, more seamless remote user experience, enhanced security features and easier IT management for HP client virtualization customers.
As the world leader in Windows based thin clients shipping more than several major competitors combined3 HP offers WES 7 thin clients that deliver PC performance, expandable memory and connectivity options for maximum adaptability in customer environments. They also give customers the choice of two complete deployment and remote management tools: the scalable HP Device Manager, included at no additional cost, for thin client deployments; or HP Client Automation for mixed client and datacentre enterprise environments. Additional enhancements and features of HP WES 7 thin clients:
Microsoft RDP 7, Citrix ICA 12 and VMware View Manager 4.5 protocol and broker support for easy access and robust user experiences with terminal services and VDI.
Internet Explorer 8 provides faster, more secure browsing and Windows Media Player 12 supports popular audio and video formats.
Microsoft Windows Firewall guards against malicious software and Native Smart Card support enables more secure network access.
HP Write Filter Manager allows the configuration and use of Enhanced or File-based Write Filter.
HP TeemTalk for easy access to legacy applications.
HP XenDesktop reference architecture simplifies the deployment process
Together with Citrix, HP is also announcing that they will make available shortly a new reference architecture that provides a tested, scalable blueprint for a transition to virtualization that simplifies planning and deployment of a Citrix XenDesktop environment on XenServer.
The reference architecture will join the Enterprise reference architectures for XenDesktop on XenServer and on Hyper-V in giving customers, resellers as well as service providers the information to determine the right solution for every need. The configuration is based on HP ProLiant DL380 G7 Servers, the HP StorageWorks P4300 G2 SAS Starter SAN solution and HP 5700 series thin clients. It has been pre-defined and tested for sizing and performance for up to 250 users, based on a typical office user workload.
Each reference architecture can be scaled to meet changing business needs and can be complemented by a full portfolio of HP services including planning, implementation, support and hosting.
HP support of Citrix XenDesktop 5
Citrix XenDesktop 5, available mid-November, will be supported across the HP thin client portfolio via an automated download using the HP EasyUpdate utility. The highly scalable XenDesktop 5 environment is designed to facilitate quicker and easier virtualization deployments and will provide HP thin client customers with more dynamic multimedia capabilities, including high-definition (HD) Webcam support for video collaboration at 80 percent lower bandwidth.
"Working with HP allows us to deliver comprehensive desktop virtualization solutions for enterprise customers," said Natalie Lambert, director of product marketing at Citrix. "Together, HP and Citrix are working to meet business demands by further simplifying and improving performance for desktop virtualization with a new reference architecture designed to ease the implementation of XenDesktop, as well as integrating with thin clients designed to enhance multimedia functionalities."
