The new DesignJet 4500 debuts at the region's leading print exhibition

Dubai, UAE - HP will be showcasing its world-class printing solutions for the graphics and printing industry as well as demonstrating its leadership in large format printing technology at Gulf Print 2005, the region's premier printing and publishing event held from December 11-14, 2005 in Dubai.

"A highlight at this year's exhibition will be the unveiling of the new DesignJet 4500, which offers stunning performance, speed, simplicity and professional quality results for fast-moving, creative businesses in the Middle East," said Thomas Valjak, Commercial Value Business Manager, Imaging & Printing Group, HP Middle East at a press conference held yesterday. "In addition, industry visitors will experience the significant business advantages provided by a smart and sophisticated product line-up that includes the DesignJet 90, the DesignJet 5500 and the Color Laserjet 9500 at the HP stand along with our partners solutions like PosterJet, ColorGate, GMG and EFI software RIPs and Zund digital cutter as well as Film output for screen printing with AGFA software solution."

Acknowledging that the exhibition has emerged as a key event for the printing industry in the region, Valjak added: "Gulf Print 2005 is the perfect platform for us to unveil the new DesignJet 4500 to businesses which demand the best for their more technically advanced printing requirements. HP is leveraging its leadership in printing technology to drive the adoption of color, giving our customers more opportunities to deliver high-impact communications in a wide range of formats, especially the increasing demand for top quality large format printing."

The newest addition to the DesignJet large-format printer family makes unattended color production a viable and cost-effective choice for technical and Print Shop Providers markets. In addition it also combines high-throughput color printing at low running costs as well as copying and scanning with unattended operation. The printer also has an extended set of job accounting and facility management features that meet the needs of large format printing production environments, including AEC, MCAD, GIS and reprographics.

The HP DesignJet 4500 delivers high color line precision and image quality while achieving fast print, copy and scan speeds. Available as three solutions, the Designjet 4500 Printer features two media rolls and optional stacker, the Designjet 4500 Scanner, and the Designjet 4500 mfp a fully featured print/scan/copy multifunction printer. The series features simultaneous processing and printing to shorten turnaround time to improve cost-efficiency and profitability.

Reliably fast, with a low cost per print
Equipped with HP Double Swath technology using 2 printheads per color to increase productivity, the HP DesignJet 4500 Printer series  achieves breakthrough results in print speeds as well as low cost per print; it now takes only 0.17ml of ink to produce a standard line drawing covering an area of 1m2.  In addition, up to 100 A1 size black and white or color drawings can be printed in one hour.  A breakthrough in technology introduced by HP with the Designjet 4500 series is making the cost per sqm for technical colour drawings up to three times lower than LED Black & White printing.

The series also delivers up to 2,400 x 1,200 optimised dpi and plus/minus 0.1 percent line accuracy, which is optimal for users who need precise designs and plans. It also provides color stability using the automatic Closed-Loop-Calibration feature for proofing and graphics production.

Unattended color production
The HP DesignJet 4500 comes with two roll feeds, each holding up to 175m long roll and switches between different roll widths and media types automatically. With full capacity of 350m media, the printer can be left unattended for at least six hours continuous printing without needing to change the roll. The new extra-large HP 90 775ml Black Ink Cartridge provides sufficient capacity to print over 1,500 A0 line drawing plots. The optional stacker closes the unattended printing workflow by flattening and holding up to 200 A0 plots. When equipped with the HP DesignJet 4500 Stacker, the HP DesignJet 4500 Printer requires no attention for at least four hours while producing 200 plots.

In addition, the HP DesignJet 4500 simplifies the user experience with:

- HP Embedded Web Server, which enables remote printer management capabilities that provide current job preview, printer and supplies status reporting and alerts

- Improved job accounting capabilities including job classification and HP AutoSend for remote usage reporting, facilitating pay-per-use contracts

- 5mm margins on all sides of a plot that eliminate the need for trimming of CAD prints

- Optional third-party in-line folding device

- New extra long roll of the HP Universal Bond Paper 80g/m2 with industry leading whiteness for high contrast color prints and crisp line resolution in black

- New HP Super Heavyweight Plus Matte Paper 210g/m2 which is an affordable, high quality coated paper which dries instantly and is ideal for dense plots such as maps

- The integrated print/scan/copy system of the HP DesignJet 4500mfp features real-time printer, media and information in the scanner user interface along with copy accounting in the printer and the ability to prioritise photo copying jobs

- The new HP Designjet 4500 42" high-quality scanner provides high-speed scanning with up to 10 inch/sec for B/W and 3 inch/sec in color.  It features touch screen interface, built-in scan to DVD writer and copy directly to any current Designjet printer on the network.

HP 's participation at the leading  print exhibition will be in conjunction with its key business partners that include Pro Technology, Graphitech, Colorbyte, Jacky's and Griffin Graphics.

HP and Layout Middle East will be organizing a series of workshops for partners and end-users with hands-on in page layout (Quark Xpress) and colour management using a dedicated workshop area on HP stand.
