27 October 2006
Hong Kong - Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) announced the opening of HKSTP Shenzhen Representative Office at the Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park (SHIP) on 13 October 2006.  The opening not only marked a milestone in HKSTP's collaboration with SHIP, but also further strengthened the partnership of Hong Kong and Shenzhen in innovation and technology, such as integrated circuit and biotechnology.

Mr. Liu Yingli, Vice Mayor of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and Mr. Carlos Genardini, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP officiated at the opening ceremony. Management from the Administrative Office of SHIP and Shenzhen Integrated Circuit Design Industrial Center also attended.

"The opening of the HKSTP Shenzhen Representative Office signifies the successful partnership of HKSTP and SHIP," said Mr. Liu Yingli, Vice Mayor of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, "I am delighted to see that the two science parks in Shenzhen and Hong Kong have collaborated to implement our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) since April this year."

Mr Liu continued, "I trust that the opening will further enhance the development of innovation and technology in the two cities and strengthens the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Zone so as to contribute to the economic growth of both regions."

HKSTP signed an MOU with SHIP and Xian High-tech Industrial Park in March 2006. Under the MOU, the three regions will cooperate on technology, human resources and new ventures to promote innovation in manufacturing, enhance the capability of cross-region cooperation and promote interaction between the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Zone and the development of western region of Mainland China.

A month after the signing of the MOU, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Zone Official Express Bus commenced in April running between Hong Kong Science Park and Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park.  This service is a special arrangement provided by the Shenzhen Municipal Government catering to the needs of businessmen, researchers, engineers and scholars from the parks and other selected organizations.

"Our collaboration with SHIP has greatly enhanced our capacity to support industry in the region.  The co-tenantship has also benefited our technology enterprises in both parks," said Mr Carlos Genardini, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP.  "Since our collaboration, four HKSTP member companies have already visited SHIP for co-tenantship, while a biotechnology company from SHIP has set up an office in HKSTP," Mr Genardini added.

"We will also jointly promote both science parks to the international and mainland technology enterprises," said Mr Genardini. In June this year, HKSTP and SHIP visited Helsinki in Finland to co-market both Parks.

In addition, HKSTP and Hong Kong Trade Development Council are jointly organizing a Science Park Day at the Innovation & Design Expo in Hong Kong on 1 December, 2006. Under the leadership of SHIP, a number of Shenzhen enterprises will exhibit their latest technology developments at the Expo and join the Science Park Day Conference.

The HKSTP Shenzhen Representative Office is located at Rm608, Building 4, Shenzhen Software Park I, 2nd Gaoxin Zhong Road, High-Tech Industrial Park, Shenzhen.
