Regional Utility Deregulation Fuels Need for Power Generation Companies to Reduce the Cost of Operations PHOENIX, September 13, 2004 -Honeywell (NYSE:HON) will showcase its advanced control solutions for enhanced plant efficiency and operations at the Middle East's premier energy exhibition, Power-Gen, in Manama, Bahrain this week.
Honeywell will exhibit technology solutions that will help Middle Eastern power generation plants improve productivity, reduce costs and increase safety. Demand for such solutions is increasing as a result of the recent deregulation and privatization of electric utilities in the region. "Power generation plants will need to increase revenues and reduce the cost of delivered products for fossil fuel-fired steam and combined-cycle power plants. At the same time, they need to maintain safety and reliability while meeting stringent environmental regulations," said Hussain Al-Atrakchi, regional general manager and executive director of Honeywell Automation Control Solutions, Middle East. Honeywell Process Solutions will exhibit industrial automation applications at Bahrain's Power-Gen event, including Uniformance PHD, Profit Optimizer, ProfitMax, ShadowPlant Trainer, Utility Fossil Boiler Control (UES) and Performance Monitoring.
Standard hardware platforms for power generation customers include the Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS), and FSC Safety Management Systems, which are proven industry solutions.
With major Honeywell power projects already underway in the Middle East, including the estimated $1 billion (U.S.) Al Taweelah project, and the recently announced $1.25 million (U.S.) GCC power project, Al-Atrakchi says deregulation and privatization are greatly affecting the way plants operate as businesses. The restructuring will require electric power-generating companies to respond to a fast developing business environment.
"Honeywell is pleased to offer our Middle Eastern power generation customers process control solutions that will usher them through this period of transition and through the many years ahead." said Al-Atrakchi.
Power-Gen will be held at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre from September 13 - 15, 2004.
