Winners in Comedy and non scripted entertainment categories to be judged by tv and PROGRAMmING experts and announced the following day

His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, inaugurated the judging process to determine finalists for Comedy and Non-Scripted Entertainment categories for the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 2004 Emmy Awards at a press conference attended by members of the press, a distinguished international panel of judges and the sponsoring organizations, The Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT) and CNBC Arabiya.

Media experts from 20 countries from the Middle East, North America, Asia and Europe have gathered at Mina A'Salam Hotel to judge 36 semi-finalists from across Africa and Asia, 26 in the Non-Scripted Entertainment category and 10 in the Comedy category. Winning nominees will reach the finals which will be judged in New York. Winners of this year's awards will be revealed at the 32nd International Emmy Awards Gala which will take place on November 22, 2004 in New York City.

The jury is composed of professionals from a diverse range of television media including Al Jazeera, MBC, E-Vision, Oman Television, TROS, Phoenix Satellite Television, Al Sham Television, NHK, Pakistan Television, RTL, RTVE, Korean Broadcasting System, Bahrain Televison and Star India among others.

The preliminary judging round of the International Emmy Awards took place earlier this year when more than 200 judges comprised of television industry experts including producers, directors, executives and distributors judged eight program categories: Drama; Television Movie/Mini-Series; Documentary; Arts Programming; Comedies; Non-Scripted Entertainment; Children & Young People; News Coverage.  

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (the International TV Academy), a division of the National Television Academy, is the largest organization of global broadcasters, with members and representatives from 61 countries and over 250 companies. It was chartered in 1969 with a mission to honor and encourage excellence in television programming outside the United States by presenting the International Emmy Award. The International TV Academy is a unique, independent organization including the world's top television and media leaders who come together to exchange ideas, discuss common issues, and promote new strategies for the future development of quality global television programming.
