Aspiring sports leaders including an unprecedented number of women candidates from all over UAE avail of online registration facility
Hamdan Bin Mohammed Program for Sports Leadership Development (HBMPSLD), an innovative leadership program designed to develop future sports national leaders capable of promoting the sustainable development of Dubai in the sports field, has announced that it has gathered an overwhelming number of applications following the successful launching of its online registration drive in the UAE. HBMPSLD has been intensifying its awareness campaign to attract potential leaders, who will be trained to manage and lead the sports development program of Dubai and the UAE.
Over 300 applications including an unprecedented number of women from all seven emirates of the UAE have been submitted through HBMPSLD's newly launched website (www.dubaisportleaders.ae). HBMPSLD announced that they will continue to accept applications as online registration is available until July 22, 2008.
"Sports development is an important aspect in the overall progress of any society. The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Program for Sports Leadership Development has been established to focus on the challenge of developing a comprehensive sports management program for Dubai and the UAE, and to ensure continuous development of sports in the UAE along with other disciplines, in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan. Moreover, we need to recognise the importance of such programs as means of a systematic approach in developing future national sports leaders," said Adel Al Shared, Director of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Program for Sports Leadership Development.
"Furthermore, we are greatly pleased that several women have shown great interest in the management aspect of sports. This is such an overwhelming development for the program as it is our ultimate goal to harness the full potential of the UAE's human capital. We invite all those interested - men and women - to submit their applications; we are not necessarily looking for people with great sporting skills, but rather those with a potential and the commitment to lead in the very dynamic and exciting world of sports," added Al Shared.
Dubai generated the most number of applications with 111, while 62 applications were from the Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Baniyas area. The Sharjah/Khor Fakkan area has 36 candidates, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah each has eight, Ajman has seven and Umm Al Quwain has four. Around 132 applications were from UAE nationals working in the government sector, while there were 30 from media & telecommunication, and 26 from the financial sector. Some 18 applications came from the energy sector, 16 from sports clubs and six from the real estate sector.
Initiated by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Program for Sports Leadership Development has been established to provide an avenue for developing future national leaders in sports, who will be trained through a program that integrates sports values and ethics.
The key objectives of the HBMPSLD include ensuring a long-term systematised leadership development in sports; initiating changes for a progressive and productive sport society under the 'Change Agents Program'; convening an elite group of sports leaders to help participants in the program benefit from their experiences; sharing insights about individual leadership styles and values; and helping Dubai Government to successfully implement the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015.
