After fifteen years with South Africa's leading IT distribution group, MB Technologies, where he was credited with much of the growth and success of the group, Guy Whitcroft is to take up the post of Chief Operating Officer with the Middle East's leading distribution group, APTEC Holdings.

APTEC has recently been featured prominently in the news following its acquisition of the Tech Data Middle East business, which had revenues of some US$360M last year. The group which operate across the Middle East, Turkey and North Africa, comprises ten companies: APTEC Distribution, TDME (Track Distribution M.E. - the former Tech Data Middle East business), ATS (Advanced Technology Services), AKS (APTEC Kiosk Services), Brightec, Aptec Mobile, Aptec Egypt, Aptec Saudi, Aptec Lebanon and Aptec Turkey.

Whitcroft has had over thirty years of IT experience covering all aspects of the industry, from technical through sales and marketing to executive management, with vendors, distributors, resellers and end-users. He joined Tarsus Technologies from HiPerformance Systems (previously HP South Africa) in 1992, his first task was to set up Compaq distribution in the country.

His role quickly expanded to cover responsibility for all sales, marketing and technical issues at Tarsus, before being appointed Managing Director in 1997.

After 9 years heading up Tarsus, Whitcroft joined the holding company, MB Technologies, last year to take on responsibility for developing and new businesses. He has recently played a key role in establishing the joint venture with Ingram Micro and the consequent restructuring of Storgate, as well as launching a new IT Security distributor, NetDefense.

Commenting on his new role at APTEC, which he starts in June, Whitcroft said, "I've known APTEC and its Chairman, Dr Ali Baghdadi, for over five years and am delighted to be joining the group at this very exciting time in its development.
