Gem Bags Safety And Quality Award For The Second Year In A Row
Gulf Energy Maritime (GEM), the Middle East's largest independent commercial product tanker operator, continued its winning ways as it received yet another industry recognition due to its strict adherence to the highest standards of safety and quality.
Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards, in a recently concluded gala awards night held at the Madinat Jumeirah hotel in Dubai, bestowed upon the company the Safety and Quality Award in 2009. This was the second consecutive year that GEM has been recognized in this category by the same award-giving body.
The award, one of only four International Maritime Organization (IMO)-related categories this year, was received by Ahmed Al Falahi, CEO of GEM from Hamad Al Maghrabi, Director for Shiplift at Drydocks World-Dubai who sponsored the award, in the presence of Christopher Hayman, Chairman of Seatrade.
GEM bested two other finalists in the Safety and Quality category, and was a finalist in two other categories - the Tanker Operator Award and the Ship Owner / Operator Award.
"The fact that GEM has been recognized in this category for the second consecutive year speaks highly of the standards of safety and quality within which we consistently operate our business," said Al Falahi. "More importantly, because this category is one of only four IMO-related categories, this is a strong indication that our company's maritime safety and quality standards are amongst the top companies of this industry when it comes to best practices".
"This award further indicates that GEM does not rest on its laurels after having received three awards last year. We consistently maintain our strict adherence to such high standards of safety and quality and this award, together with our being a finalist in the other categories, simply validates what we have been practising all these times," added Al Falahi.
Aside from the Safety and Quality Award it received also from Seatrade last year, Lloyd's List Middle East Shipping Awards recognized GEM in the Clean Seas category, and declared GEM as the 'Tanker Company of the Year' in 2008.
GEM is certified by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance to the ISO 9001-2000 Quality Management System and ISO 14001-2004 Environment Management System for the operational and technical management of its fleet.
