Airline wins CIO 50 award for the third consecutive year

Manama, Bahrain 16 February 2014: Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, was recognized among the top 50 organizations in the Middle East for its outstanding achievements in information technology for the third consecutive year at the 'CIO 50 Awards and Forum 2014' held in Dubai recently. 

The 'CIO 50 Awards and Forum 2014' honored the airline for introducing advanced and innovative technologies aimed at improving the national carrier's business efficiency, optimizing business processes and fostering collaboration, thereby adding value to passengers.

Hosted and organized by Computer New Middle East Magazine (CNME) and Corporate Publishing International (CPI), the 'CIO 50 Awards and Forum 2014' attracted over 100 senior IT experts and Chief Information Officers from across the Middle East to recognize organizations that have accomplished commendable work in the IT field.

Receiving the award on behalf of Gulf Air, the airline's Director of Information Technology Dr. Jassim Haji commented, "Gulf Air's steadfast commitment and focus on information technology excellence as a key business enabler is reflected in our receiving this prestigious award for the third consecutive year. We are delivering our promise to continuously improve our services to better serve our passengers and winning this award demonstrates the success of our efforts in utilizing state-of-the-art technology to deliver value to our customers."

Bahrain's national carrier has consistently been at the forefront of introducing several improvements and innovations in its IT operations. More recently, Gulf Air became one of the first airlines to successfully complete the Oracle E-Business suite upgrade to R12 using the national carrier's in-house IT capabilities. Further, the airline was the first organization in Bahrain to introduce Cloud Computing in its IT operations, enabling faster and more efficient business performance with resulting enhanced customer service. It has also utilized the latest IT Technology to harness Big Data and perform Arabic Sentiment Analysis of social media about the airline.
