'MOVIE STAR' BIGGEST EVER WHEEL TO HIT THE MIDDLE EAST

The popular Global Village fun fair, one of the key attractions of the international event of the Dubai Shopping Festival will next year feature the giant ‘Movie Star’ ferris wheel.

Towering 70 metres high, the ‘Movie Star’ is the largest ferris wheel ever to have be operated in the Middle East.

“At twice the size of last year’s fun fair wheel, the ‘Movie Star’ is bound to be a real crowd puller,” said Alan Gordon, General Manager, Global Village.

The ‘Movie Star’ is one of numerous new rides which will be featured in the fun fair, which is organised by Dubai Festival City, the waterfront ‘city-within-a-city’ destination which is hosting the Global Village for the third year running.

“The inclusion of these new rides, which will definitely thrill the crowds who throng the fun fair is in line with our focus this year of delivering a high quality and extremely entertaining event,” said Gordon.

New fun fair rides are among a host of initiatives being taken for Global Village 2004, which will, at 38, also feature its largest number of national pavilions.

“Other initiatives include a dedicated kids play area and a new café area with international coffee houses,” said Gordon. “The international flavour of Global Village will be stronger than ever reflecting the Shopping Festival’s aim of creating one world, one family, one festival.”

During the Dubai Shopping Festival, which next year runs from January 15 to February 15, the Global Village is transformed into a virtual tourism destination in its own right.

The Global Village, in the heart of downtown Dubai, is a partnership production between Dubai Festival City and the Dubai Shopping Festival Committee.
