MUSCAT - The German Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Angelika Storz-Chakarji has welcomed today morning the first batch of ten future German teachers at the German Language Center Oman (GLC), located at the beach campus of the GermanUniversity of Technology in Oman (GUtech) in Athaiba. "I am looking forward to listening to your experiences in Germany. During your stay in Germany you were all Ambassadors of your country," said the German Ambassador in her welcome speech.
The Omani teachers held short presentations about their German language courses at different cities in Germany. Most of the students stayed with German host-families and had the chance to visit different places of interest while participating in an intensive German language course at Goethe-Institutes in Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Düsseldorf, Bonn, Dresden, Schwäbisch-Hall and Munich in January.
The one-month stay is part of a year-long training program aiming at preparing English teachers to become German teachers. The programme consists of intensive language courses, seminars on German culture and teaching methodology at the German Language Centre Oman, as well as two one month stays in Germany.
The group of teachers will travel again to Germany in May to get an intensive training in teaching German as a foreign language. The German Language programme at the GLC is carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of the Sultanate of Oman and the Goethe-Institut, the official German Cultural and Language Institute. German will be introduced in four Omani pilot schools next school year 2011/2012.
