MANAMA, Bahrain, November 15, 2005 -- As a major player in land seismic operations and technology, Saudi Aramco took a leadership role in the organization of a forum on the challenges of seismic technology and its application on land. The forum, organized by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), took place in September. More than 80 geoscientists from around the world, covering the spectrum of the exploration and producing industry gathered to exchange ideas and views about onshore seismic technology. Representatives came from international oil companies, national oil companies, service companies and academia. Such challenges as complex near-surface geology and seismic data acquisition, processing and interpretation were among the key subjects discussed. Abdulla A. Al-Naim, executive director of Exploration at Saudi Aramco, welcomed the participants and set the tone with a presentation summarizing the main challenges and opportunities of seismic technology on land. He stressed Saudi Aramco's commitment to seismic technology as a tool to reduce risk in exploration and field development. Forum chairman Kamal M. Al-Yahya, manager of Saudi Aramco's Exploration Operations, noted that this type of scientific exchange is ideal for promoting new ideas and fostering creative and innovative solutions. A number of company geoscientists presented papers, chaired sessions and participated in forum discussions.
