New AMILO models, ideal for playing video films and computer games, will be showcased at GITEX Dubai

October 4, 2003 Fujitsu-Siemens Computers (FSC), the leading international IT vendor, has added high-end multimedia features and top-quality mobility to its new range of AMILO notebooks, complemented by an extra wide screen, to allow peak performance in playing video films and computer games.

With the help of the Intel Centrino mobile technology, the two new models, AMILO M 7400 and AMILO D 1840, incorporate leading edge audio and video features needed to convert a laptop into a full-fledged multimedia and fun machine. Both models will lead the line-up of futuristic laptops to be showcased by FSC at GITEX Dubai 2003 exhibition to be held from the 19th to the 23rd October, 2003.

“The new generation of AMILO notebooks are stylistic machines that have brought high-end multimedia functions to the consumer segment,” said Paul Gamboa, Sales Manager, Consumer Gulf Region, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “They have been conceptualised in response to the sophisticated demands of today’s technology-savvy laptop user, with special attention to the entertainment factor and pricing. We are sure the two models will be show-stealers at GITEX Dubai.”

“The Middle East, with its large population of young computer lovers, has a tremendous demand for entertainment oriented laptops. Young professionals are increasingly looking at laptops that deliver not just robust performance for business purposes, but also for personal entertainment. The new models of AMILO meet these requirements and are designed to be used anywhere in the world, while travelling, in the office or at home. We are definitely targeting young professionals and we are positive these models will generate tremendous excitement in the Middle East,” Gamboa added.

The AMILO M 7400 brings wireless surfing and professional mobility to the home-user. It has a battery life of up to 4.5 hours and the main memory can be expanded to up to 2 GB to meet the most demanding applications. With its flat design and weight of just 2.6 kg, it is an inseparable companion of laptop wizards at home, at airports or in trains. It offers wireless reliable connection to the Internet that can function at any hotspot in the world. The notebook comes equipped with attractive software packages, including Microsoft Works Suite 2003, Microsoft Encarta 2003, Microsoft Picture it! 7.0, Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0, Adobe Photoshop Album, Win DVD 4.01 and Nero 5 CD Maker.

The AMILO D 1840 notebook has been created to give the “at the movies” feel, with an extra-wide screen with a flat design, top image quality and realistic 3D effects. Clock frequencies of up to 3.2 GHz in the integrated Intel Pentium 4 processor ensure peak performance for games and business applications. Its hyper-threading technology improves performance and speed when several applications are running simultaneously.

Both models incorporate the DVD+RW+R, offering several versatile features, such as the ability to edit videos and create DVD movies. The DVD+RW+R allow the user to create CDs, back-up for PC files and play back DVDs or CDs. The DVD also allows for the sharing and playing of home-recorded DVD discs on almost all DVD video players. The DVD+RW+R also features an archive data facility of up to 4.7 GB on DVD discs allowing over 7 times the storage capacity of a regular CD, and a 2.5xDVD writing speed, which is comparable to a 20xCD+RW speed.

The AMILO M 7400 will be available with the FSC retailers in early October, in time for GITEX, while the Amilo D 1840 will be available in the market in early November, 2003.
