New York, N.Y. New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Abu Dhabi's first accredited American university, has announced that Ahmad Tabbara has accepted an appointment as executive director of NYIT-Abu Dhabi. Tabbara, originally from Lebanon, has more than 25 years of experience in higher education in the U.A.E, previously serving in academic and administrative leadership positions at Abu Dhabi Men's College (ADMC) and the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT). He has also occupied faculty positions as a teacher of math and physics.

"NYIT-Abu Dhabi occupies an important place in the U.A.E.'s higher education landscape," said Mr. Tabbara. "I am looking forward to increasing NYIT's capacity to help every student have an outstanding experience and leave here well prepared for the U.A.E.'s workforce."

"We are delighted to welcome Mr. Ahmad Tabbara," said NYIT provost and vice president for academic affairs Rahmat Shoureshi, Ph.D. "Ahmad's breadth and depth of experience in higher education, particularly his emphasis on strategic planning, partnership and business development, and technology and process management, will be of great value to NYIT in Abu Dhabi as we expand our program offerings to students in this dynamic and growing market," Shoureshi added.

NYIT's prior campus dean, Garon Wheeler, Ph.D., will return to his faculty position, in addition to a new assignment as associate campus dean and assistant dean for NYIT's College of Arts and Sciences.

Before joining NYIT, Tabbara held two posts concurrently at HCT and ADMC; he was general manager for education and training (HCT) and associate director for administration and operations (ADMC). Tabbara's previous positions at ADMC included dean for learning support services; supervisor for academic and student services; and acting supervisor for math and physics.

Tabbara received an M.S. in Pure Mathematics at the American University of Beirut and an M.Sc. in Management of Information Systems at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He is completing his Ph.D. in Management of Information Systems at Northcentral University.

NYIT established its Abu Dhabi campus in 2005, offering U.S.-accredited bachelor's and master's degrees. More than 600 NYIT-Abu Dhabi graduates now work in private and public organizations throughout the U.A.E.'s growing economy.
