A shower of flowers, confetti and balloons at BurJuman Centre
Dubai, July 15, 2004 - The Flower Surprises Week, the fifth of the 10-week Dubai Summer Surprises, opened with a splash last night at the BurJuman centre.
The fragrance filled opening was also attended by Abdullah Raffe, Assistant Director, Environment and Health Affairs, Dubai Municipality, Ahmed AbdulKarim, Director of Public Parks and Horticulture and Head of the Flower Surprises Committee, Mohammed Al Fardan, Deputy Head of the Flower Surprises Committee, Saeed Mohammed Al Nabouda, Chief Executive Officer, DSS, Ibrahim Saleh, Chief Operations Officer, DSS and the staff from DSS office along with a huge audience of DSS revellers.
The opening started at 4:30 PM, as all the visitors to the mall were welcomed with flower bouquets. Balloons arranged to represent flowers decorated the mall. Various corners at the mall hosted events such as the Flower Market, Flower Arrangement Display, Flower Painting Workshop, Magic Shows, Plate Painting Workshop, Hand-crafted Flowers Workshop, Flower Artist and Flower Seller Event. The visitors also received several chances to win valuable prizes in several competitions organized on the theme of flowers.
The star event of the evening was the beautiful FlowerFantasia, a spectacular show that used music, lights and talented performers to burst the fragrance of a lovely spring afternoon into the mall. A total of 22 performers dressed up as exotic species of flowers from different continents showcased the nature's bounty as part of the Opening Ceremony.
The highlight of the spectacular extravaganza was a mind-boggling rain of flowers, confetti and balloons over the entire audience watching the show.
The conclusion of the opening ceremony saw the grand raffle draw, for Dhs 30,000 from Paris Gallery.
Dubai Summer Surprises is currently in the Flower Surprises week organised by Dubai Municipality until July 21, followed by Heritage Surprises by Dubai Customs from July 22-28, Adventure Surprises by Dubai Police from July 29-August 4, Knowledge Surprises by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry from August 5-11, Back-2-School Surprises by the Department of Economic Development from August 12-18 and ends with the Colour Surprises by the Department of Health and Medical Sciences from August 19- 27, 2004.
