The Organizing Committee of "Knowledge without Borders" project has announced the launch of its activities in a press conference in Sharjah Expo Centre's Conference Hall yesterday (Tuesday).

The project which is sponsored by the Emirate of Sharjah, the cultural capital, comes as a generous initiative from H.H. Shaikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Headed by H.E. Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qassimi, Vice Chairperson of Sharjah Ladies Club and Chairperson of Al Qasba Development Authority, "Knowledge without Borders" organizing committee is determined to achieve an outstanding increase in the general knowledge among the Emirati community through providing each Emirati home with a library of varied books selection that meets the interests of all family members. The project will be carried out on several phases to cover all areas of the Emirate of Sharjah.

Following the wise directives of H.H. Ruler of Sharjah, this unique project aims to increase general knowledge of local community members especially children, in order to enforce Sharjah's Emirate as the cultural capital and re-establish the national identity, Marwan J. Al Sarkal, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee said in his speech.

"We face variables and challenges that influence our values, customs and traditions which oblige us to increase the knowledge base for the community members that would in return preserve our Islamic and Arabic identity and language," Al Sarkal stated.

"The number of Emirati families that would benefit from this project is around 22 - 24 thousand by the end of the year 2009/the beginning of 2010", added Al Sarkal.

Salha Ghabesh, Member of the Book Selection and Distribution Committee and Cultural Consultant at the Family Supreme Council, said that the project is based on high standards and intensive studies to verify the number of families, their educational status and age categories in order to determine the mechanism of books distribution.

Salha pointed out that the project will be issuing 50 books from different genres for each family such as: religious books, scientific books, novels and stories.

In the presence of HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the first process of book distribution will start on Thursday, November, 27th at 10am in the Shais village, in which eight families are living along many other cultural and edutainment activities.
