The Organising Committee of the 10th Dubai Shopping Festival met yesterday (Saturday) at the Department of Economic Development to discuss the general overview and directions of the event, which will be held from January 12 to 12 February 2005.
The first Organising Committee meeting was headed by Saeed Mohammed Al Nabouda, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Shopping Festival. Ibrahim Saleh, Chief Operations Officer, Ibrahim Abdul Rahim, Global Village Manager, DSF, Laila Suhail, Chief Marketing Officer, Yousif Mubarak, Events and Operations Director, Marwan Al Serkal, Finance and Administration Director, Khalid Al Shafar, Marketing Manager and members of the Organising Committee.
Al Nabouda started the meeting with a presentation of the DSF 2004 results as it witnessed an increase in the total number of visitors and spend. He mentioned that the total number of visitors of DSF 2004 has increased to 6% in comparison with the previous year. DSF 2004 attracted more than 3.1 million visitor, while during DSF 2003 it received 2.92 million visitors, thus registering an increase of 93 percent in the total number of visitors. The growth in number of visitors has reflected positively on the total spend during DSF 2004 as it recorded 5.8 billion, while it reached 4.9 billion during the DSF 2003, with an increase of 13 % of the previous year and an increase of 169% comparing to the DSF 1996.
Al Nabouda emphasized on adopting and implementing new and innovative events for the 10th anniversary of DSF. He also urged the Organising Committee members to be fully prepared and to have an advanced plan for the events, which will reflect positively on the 10th anniversary of DSF.
Ibrahim Saleh pointed that the opening ceremony of the10th anniversary of DSF will surely be unique and exclusive. In addition, special locations in the city will be selected to organize the celebrations of the event.
Khalid Al Shafar presented the new location of the Global Village 2005 in the immense project of " Dubai Land". He added that the construction is in progress and it is almost completed, especially the infrastructure of the Global Village with the cooperation of Dubai Municipality and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
Al Nabouda reviewed the requirements of the Organising Committee, which are to create sub-committees, present overviews of the events and activities that will be organized during the event, services requirements and calendar of events for each committee.
The members of the Organising Committee have discussed their due date preparations of the DSF, where every member talked about the overview of the event and the expected activities and events to be organized during DSF 2005.
The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Colonel / Ahmed Al Sayk, Security Committee and Major/ Abdull Khalifa Al Marri from Dubai Police, Major/ Ebrahim Obaid, from the Dubai Civil Defense, Captain/ Omar Al Shamsi, from Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department, Ahmed Abdul Kareem Mohammed Al Fardan from Dubai Municipality, Marwan Bin Biyat from the Dubai Tourism and Marketing Department, Malek Sultan AL Malek from Dubai Internet City, Nuha Mohammed Safar from Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Engineer/ Ibrahim Taleb, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Mortdh AL Hashme from Dubai Educational Zone, Mohammed Halyl Al Murooshdi from the Department of Economic Development, Hala Lootah and Sally Zoreb from Department of Health and Medical Services.
