The first Conference on Economic Relations between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and GCC countries was held on Monday 21st November, 2005 at the Awal ballroom, Gulf Hotel, Bahrain. It was organized by the Jordanian Permanent Exhibition, which was inaugurated on 20th November, 2005 in the Al Hedaya 2 Building on Government Avenue in Manama.
Organizers emphasized that despite the recent terrorist bombings, Jordan will continue to pursue economic reforms and increased trade- particularly with GCC countries and the region.
Speakers at the conference included: Dr. Ma'an Nusoor, General Manager, Economic Endorsement Association, speaking on Investment Opportunities in Jordan, Mr. Nash'at Al Sahawna, from Hamad Real Estate, speaking on Real Estate Investment Opportunities, Dr. Shahab Al Saawi, Spa & Wellness Tourism Investor, speaking on Spa & Wellness Tourism in Jordan and Mr. AbdulRahman Al Saeed, CEO, Kuwait Finance & Investment.
The Conference on Economic Relations targeted businessmen and investors in Jordan and GCC countries with several objectives in mind. These included: promoting and developing economic and trade ties between Jordan and GCC countries, directing Gulf investment capitals to Jordan and Jordanian capital to the GCC, ensuring that Jordanian products and services reach the GCC market and vice versa, and fostering close relations between Jordanian and Gulf traders and businessmen and the establishment of joint-ventures.
The Conference agenda comprised three sessions. The first session included the following topics: Forthcoming Investment Opportunities in Jordan, Investing in Jordan from an Arab Perspective, and Why Jordan. The second session included: A Horizon of Investment Opportunities in the Arab World, and the Economic Media.
The third session comprised: The Competitive Edge of Jordanian Products and Services and Free Arab Trade Agreements in Theory and Practice.
