Dubai, UAE 9 December 2003. Hundreds of Iraqi youngsters have more to smile about due to some special deliveries made by FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company. FedEx has recently teamed up with Operation Give, on a project nicknamed ‘Joys Through Toys’. The company is airlifting toys from the Maryland, US headquarters of the charity to underprivileged children in Baghdad.
“FedEx is known for treating people well, from our employees to the communities in which we operate,” said Hamdi Osman, Regional Vice President, FedEx Middle East, Indian Sub-Continent and Africa. “Over the next few weeks we will continue to spread the spirit of giving to make these very special deliveries.”
The charity Operation Give collects the toys at their Maryland warehouse, inspects and sorts the contents, repackages and prepares them to be shipped by FedEx.
The project ‘Joys through Toys’ is another example of FedEx’s commitment to the communities where it does business. FedEx previously teamed up with Water Missions International, a non-profit engineering organization providing safe and sustainable drinking water solutions for developing countries and disaster areas. In June, FedEx transported the equipment needed to provide safer water systems to the people of Iraq.
In September 2002, FedEx helped deliver sight worldwide with Orbis International, a nonprofit organization operating the world’s only “flying eye hospital”, which provides eye care and treatment to people in developing countries. The company provided the organization with aviation-related services such as aircraft safety checks and shipment of medical supplies as well as aircraft equipment to sites all over the world. Each year, thousands of FedEx employees volunteer money, talent, resources and time about 100,000 hours worth to support various charitable organizations with which FedEx has strategic relationships.
FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., connects areas that generate 90% of the world’s gross domestic product in 24-48 hours with door-to-door, customs-cleared service and a money-back guarantee. The company’s unmatched air route authorities and infrastructure make it the world’s largest express transportation company, providing fast, reliable and time-definite transportation of more than 3.1 million items to over 214 countries each working day. FedEx Express employs approximately 138,000 employees and has more than 50,000 drop-off locations, 643 aircraft and more than 43,000 vehicles in its integrated global network.
With annual revenues of $23 billion, FedEx Corp. is the premier global provider of transportation, e-commerce and supply chain management services. The company offers integrated business solutions through a network of subsidiaries operating independently, including: FedEx Express, the world's largest express transportation company; FedEx Ground, North America's second largest provider of small-package ground delivery service; FedEx Freight, the largest U.S. provider of regional less- than-truckload freight services; FedEx Custom Critical, North America’s largest provider of expedited time-critical shipments; and FedEx Trade Networks, North America's largest customs broker and a provider of international freight forwarding and trade facilitation services.
