FM company initiates new German cleaning process - avoids bacteria cross-contamination, saves time and money using sustainable products
Farnek Avireal a leading UAE-based facilities management company, has created a novel colour-coded cleaning process using only sustainable chemicals and reusable cloths, which could save property owners millions of dollars as well as lowering their carbon emissions.
The simple system uses four different coloured symbols (blue, yellow, red and green) for cloths, mops, buckets and chemicals that are specific to different areas of a building. Any cleaning product or implement coloured blue, for example can only be used in common areas such as offices, cabinets halls classrooms and reception areas.
Yellow indicates that it is an area where cross-contamination can occur. So to ensure the message gets through to their multicultural workforce, simple colour-coded symbols on stickers are placed on all bottles, buckets and trolleys that are dedicated to those areas.
"Initially to help, staff can be given a colour-coded floor plan until they become accustomed to the routine," said Andrea Deutschbein, Division Manager - Cleaning at Farnek Avireal.
Deutschbein, a German national, added, "One of the key benefits is that not only does this process produce an enhanced standard of cleaning it also prevents bacteria cross-contamination. Cleaning materials are only used within their designated areas, so for example a red cloth would only be used in bathrooms, it would never be used in a food service area."
The simple system helps staff avoid any hygienic mix-ups - useful in a country as cosmopolitan as the UAE, where multilingual workforces are commonplace.
"This means that we can eliminate unwanted, mobile bacteria. The micro fiber cloths will pick up practically all dirt on any given surface," commented Deutschbein.
In fact the management team of the Farnek Avireal cleaning division is made up of a number of former five-star hospitality professionals.
"The beauty of the product lies in its simplicity, there is absolutely no reason why office buildings and shopping malls can't achieve the same standards of cleanliness as five-star hotels by adopting this process," said Deutschbein.
Farnek Avireal is also delivering a powerful environmental message. The EU certified German cleaning
products that they use are sustainable - they need less water and clean more efficiently than conventional products, cutting down on unwanted carbon emissions.
Other innovative measures include the measured bottle tops, which are designed to only use the precise amount of chemicals needed, and super-absorbent cloths, which are reusable and come with a two-year warranty.
