Approval brings affordable plug and play ADSL connectivity to users in small to medium offices and homes in the UAE. Company expects broadband uptake to launch new era in internet services
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, October 15, 2002
U.S.Robotics, the world’s leading provider of connectivity solutions for the home and small to medium offices sector today announced that its new ADSL USB modem will be available very shortly in the UAE market, following a period of intensive testing, and approval by Etisalat, the telecommunications provider of the UAE. The 9000 sureConnect ADSL modem offers advanced plug and play capabilities and is ideal for residential and small office/home office self installations.
“The UAE market is ready to adopt broadband,” commented Peter Blampied, U.S.Robotics Sales and Operations director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, speaking at GITEX 2002 “the country’s telecommunications infrastructure is very advanced and can support this type of technology. On the other hand, internet penetration is very high, and users do need DSL connection speed to carry out their tasks on the web, especially now that e-government services are being launched on such a large scale”
“We strongly believe that broadband will bring a new era for web services,” added Ysuf Syed, U.S.Robotics’ regional sales manager in the Middle East and India “as more users get access to high speed surfing, providers will have a larger market to address and new services to introduce. We are happy that we can participate in this through our line of DSL solution, and add value to our users’ internet experience”
SureConnect software simplifies installation by automatically checking the computer for minimum system requirements, users can turn on immediate broadband access with Plug and Play USB support, with no need for additional network cards. Necessary DSL values are chosen by the software from a convenient pop-up menu. SureConnect products feature complete software, documentation, online software upgrades, and total product support for long service life and trouble-free operation.
“Our main goal is to bring state of the art solutions to our customers, yet, at the same time, keep our products reliable and easy to use,” added Tony Field, EMEA product Manager “we have been able to do just that with the SureConnect family of products, which is very user friendly and provides full support to users, whether they are technologically savvy or not”
The built-in diagnostics and connection monitoring set a new standard for convenience and ease of use. SureConnect software provides support tools so users can monitor basic modem and DSL service performance.
Service technicians can utilize a special “technician mode” to run advanced diagnostics, monitor system performance, and perform control/configuration functions.
The SureConnect USB ADSL Modem meets or exceeds the TR-048 benchmark standard for ADSL performance testing (developed by the DSL Forum), UR-2, and other key industry/telco performance requirement standards. Download rates up to 8 Mbps (more than 145 times faster than 56K analog dial-up modems) provide the speed and bandwidth for streaming audio and video, remote network access/telecommuting, online gaming, and more!
