Ericsson has launched a year-long training program in Oman for recent graduates, in an effort to expand its engagement with future industry leaders and empower young Omanis to consider careers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The program will help nationals develop their technical skills, and prepare the graduates for employment opportunities in the industry.
Throughout the year, talented Omanis will be given the opportunity to learn about potential careers as they receive formal and intensive training. The young Omanis will cultivate their skills by experiencing hands-on training with advanced ICT technologies, LTE being chief among them.
"This training initiative gives us a unique opportunity to connect with driven young professionals, and provide them with insights into the ICT industry," said Abdullah Al Balushi, president of Ericsson Oman.
"LTE is changing the landscape of ICT, making this a turning point for us and an interesting time to learn. We hope to provide the participants who are newly entering the workforce with a powerful experience, filled with challenges and exposure to key areas in our field in order to boost their career lives."
In addition to LTE, Ericsson has identified Operating & Business Support Systems (OSS/BSS), Managed Services, and Radio Core as growing areas in the industry, and has tailored the internships around these core topics.
Ericsson has a long-standing presence in Oman, beginning in 1973 when the company was tasked with establishing the first telephone facilities throughout the country. This initiative is in line with Ericsson's Technological Omanisation Programme, which aims to recruit more Omani graduates through training and recruitment opportunities.
