November 25, 2009: DUBAI, UAE - EnviroFone, a division of EnviroServe, The Green Company, and the official recycler for the UAE National Mobile Phone Recycling Campaign, is announcing the placement of the new 500 green drop boxes across the seven Emirates, to be distributed by the end of November 2009.

The nation-wide campaign is endorsed by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Ministry of Environment and Water. The current campaign supporters include Dubai Internet City, Emarat, Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort, Hertz, Air Miles Shopping Rewards, Magrudy's, Fujairah Municipality, Lamcy Plaza, Arabian Centre, Spinneys, Dubai Ladies Club and Ferrari World.

The green plastic drop boxes serve the purpose of convenient collection points for UAE residents who want to recycle their old mobile phones and similar-sized electronics, such as TV remote controls. The boxes are branded by EnviroFone's supporters and placed strategically at select supermarket chains, shopping malls, petrol stations, banks and business communities across all Emirates.

In order to guide UAE residents to the nearest drop box location, the exact drop box locations will be announced shortly. The procedure for disposal is fairly simple: in order to qualify for the raffle draw, each item has to be put in one of the green envelopes on top of the green drop boxes. Each envelope has a serial number which is then eligible for an award.

Phase 1 of EnviroFone's recycling campaign was launched in June 2007 and ended in 2008. This year's Phase 2 has earned more supporters and involves a better incentive system for UAE residents. There will be a monthly raffle draw and all participants stand a chance to win prizes from Magrudy's, Air Miles, Hertz, and Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort. "The success of the initial mobile phone recycling drop boxes has lead us to manufacture and distribute double the amount we had out there before," added Fleming. "The new drop boxes come with new rewards, offered through a monthly draw to those customers who recycle their old mobile phones with us instead of throwing them out."

"Since we were established five years ago, we have been creating awareness about environmental issues and raising the level of responsibility that UAE residents are demonstrating towards our environment," Stuart Fleming, CEO of EnviroServe, said.

Dave Battiston, CEO of Air Miles, said: "Few people are aware of how to manage the disposal of electronic devices such as mobile phones at the end of their working life. We are delighted to be an official sponsor of an initiative which works to not only raise awareness but to make recycling as simple as possible."

Alongside mobile phones, EnviroFone collects and recycles a vast spectrum of electric and electronic waste across the Middle East. The company's recycling processes are fully licensed in the UAE, and hazardous e-scrap recycling is executed according to international standards set by the United Nations Environment Protection Agency and the Basel Action Network.

EnviroServe, the company which owns EnviroFone, offers other green services such as recycling refrigerant gas and is the sole distributor in the Middle East for Tornex© clean air solutions. EnviroServe was established in Dubai in 2004.
