Dubai, UAE, Dec 10, 2003 – An environmental conference – “Visionary Environment, Waste Management in the 21st Century” – took place today in Dubai at Emirates Towers, which examined international environmental and waste management practices. The one-day seminar brought together representatives from Dubai Municipality and Emirates Environmental Group, as well as a panel of leading environmental advocates that presented case studies from Europe and Asia, and discussed the growing demands for sound environmental practice in the UAE.
The conference is sponsored by Envac, a world leader in automated waste collection, and will address long term concerns and offer solutions to waste management as well as how to sustain rapid commercial and residential development without causing undue stress to the environment.
“The UAE is already a leader in innovate environmental practice, and hence, an ideal platform to stage a dedicated conference that examines challenges and solutions in sustenance of the environment,” said Mr. Bernt Hederen, Managing Director, Envac Middle East.
Opening remarks were made by Dubai Municipality’s Environment and Public Health Affairs department, followed by an introduction to environmental practices in the UAE by Ms. Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group.
“In the UAE, we are lucky to possess such a wonderful, largely un-spoilt environment, however, the UAE produces more waste per household then many larger nations. We must work to combat this Throw Away attitude, and this is a never-ending battle,” said Al Marashi.
International case studies from Singapore and Spain were discussed, and the conference closed with an examination of the long-term profitability and investment returns can be gained by utilizing environmentally friendly waste management procedures.
