Mock drill shows better awareness among staff and faster response to emergencies
Dubai, February 20, 2008: ENOC recently held an Emergency Evacuation Drill at its head office as part of evaluating safety measures and response times during crisis situations.
ENOC fire wardens, security, Group Environment, Health, Safety and Quality (EHSQ) division members and other staff participated in the drill, along with Dubai Civil Defence, Police and Unified Ambulance Service teams.
A mock fire scenario was created on the third floor of the building, with rescue operations focusing on an employee trapped inside a toilet and another employee injured in the stairway during evacuation.
The events that followed showed faster response to the crisis and a quicker completion of the evacuation as compared to previous such exercises, indicating better safety awareness among ENOC staff.
Addressing a post-drill meeting with all emergency service, fire wardens and observers, the incident commanders, Captain Saeed Al Falasi from Dubai police and Lieutenant Amer Al Diesi from Dubai Civil Defence, rated ENOC's crisis handling at 80-85% in comparison with similar drills held elsewhere in Dubai.
Commenting on the evacuation drill, Waddah Ghanem, Group EHS Compliance Manager, said, "Safety is a huge responsibility that extends beyond buildings or their premises. ENOC Group EHSQ follows a highly-focused approach and constantly reviews guidelines and protocols to make sure that safety standards are uniform and up-to-date across ENOC operations. At the same time, we also regularly evaluate our crisis preparedness and maintain close coordination with concerned agencies.
"We are happy that the authorities are satisfied with the measures we adopt to ensure the safety of our people and other assets. There are some minor observations which require corrective actions and we will work with EPPCO Management and ENOC Properties Ltd Management for such improvements," Ghanem added.
