DUBAI, U.A.E., 19th February - Emirates, one of the world's fastest growing airlines and Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, have entered into a code share agreement, giving travellers better connectivity and an extended range of services between Dubai and Muscat.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group, and Ziad Al Haremi, Chief Executive Officer Oman Air finalized the agreement at a signing ceremony held in Dubai today.
The code share agreement boosts the available capacity between Dubai and Muscat to an impressive six flights per day in each direction on all days except Friday - the highest daily frequency to a single point on the Emirates network. On Fridays, five flights will be operated in each direction on the route.
Emirates' customers can now choose to travel on the airline's two daily flights between Dubai and Muscat, as well as on Oman Air's four or three daily services, depending on the choice of day.
Each carrier will carry its own designator codes and flight numbers on the code share services.
Sheikh Ahmed stated: "Emirates is delighted to announce this new code sharing agreement with Oman Air. The partnership reflects Emirates' commitment towards finding new opportunities to work together with other airlines, in the larger interests of our customers. Together, Emirates and Oman Air will offer customers more choice, more flexibility and improved scheduling throughout the day."
The benefits to business travellers are enormous as they can now arrive into Dubai for a day's work on any of the three morning flights from Muscat, and return by any of the three late evening flights.
The new agreement will not only allow for greater flexibility and convenience on the Dubai-Muscat route, but will also provide smoother connections and improved choice for passengers travelling to destinations beyond Dubai, in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Ziad Al Haremi added: "The code share agreement between Oman Air and Emirates is a significant step forward in strengthening the relationship between our two airlines. The agreement will bring benefits for our passengers, and enhance tourism and commerce between the Sultanate of Oman and Dubai."
Emirates' other code shares partners include Air India, Air Malta, Air Mauritius, Continental Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, South African Airways and Thai Airways. Oman Air currently has code sharing agreements with Swiss International Air Lines, Sri Lankan and Gulf Air.
