in the presence of the Governor of Cairo, Dr. Abel Azeem Wazir, Engineer Amr Talaat, Chairman of the Internal Trade Development Authority, representing the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Engineer Medhat El -Meligui, Chairman of the Union of Producers and Exporters of Horticultural Crops (UPEHC), representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Makro opened its first store in Egypt.  Located in Salam City, the store is the first of Makro's much anticipated wholesale stores, of which 12 are expected to open over the next 3 years.

Commenting on the launch of Makro's first store, Metro Group's (the German mother company of Makro Egypt) CEO for Europe and MENA, Mr. Joel Saveuse said "Egypt is one of the most important markets in the MENA region and Metro Group has been carefully monitoring the impressive fast paced growth of the Egyptian market. The store which spans over nearly 10,000 square meters will offer exclusive access to business professionals, housing over 20,000 food and non food products all under one roof. The store which will sell in bulk, will exclusively tailor their services to the needs of their diverse customer base covering traders, hospitality professionals and business companies. By focusing on creating the most competitive prices for professionals' core needs, Makro will ensure, professionals are able to offer a greater and more diverse selection of products and services at even more affordable prices.

Elaborating on the many benefits that Makro's store will offer to business professionals, Francois Oliver, Managing Director, Makro Egypt said "For the first time, business professionals will be able to access all of their core needs under one roof. More than just a store for professionals, Makro's work on the development of the cold chain distribution lines under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, through their Farmers Project, will shorten the time span from farm to fork thereby delivering to professionals and customers, the highest quality products in the Egyptian market.  The opening of Makro in Salam City is also expected to be the driving force behind the local development of the area, with most Makro Salam City store employees being employed, coming from Salam City.

As the first store in Cairo and Egypt, the launch of Makro in Salam City, will be a crucial step forward in the development of the way businesses interact with each other and their customers in the Cairo area. With more than 20 stores expected to open in the medium to long term, Makro will eventually be located in governorates and cities across the country.
