As part of the governmental program, AMD processors will power computer labs in 1400 public elementary schools throughout Egypt AMD (NYSE: AMD) has announced the deployment of computers based on AMD's Phenom™ II X2 processors and AMD 780 chipset solutions, as part of a comprehensive tender agreement with the Ministry of Education in Egypt. The project, led by regional system integrator Centra, focuses on the development of computer labs for the government's wide-ranging computer literacy program. According to the terms of the agreement, the Ministry intends to equip PC learning labs in 1400 public elementary schools throughout the 29 governorates of Egypt with nearly 10,000 AMD processor-based computers.
"This isn't just a simple tender for PCs. Education is a long-term, national cause for us, and our ambitious program to develop computer skills among schoolchildren will help ensure that future generations of Egyptians become active participants in the information society," commented HE Ahmad Zaki Bader, the Minister of Education in Egypt.
"AMD is committed to the Egyptian market and the development of IT literacy in Egypt and throughout the Middle East region," affirmed Alberto Bozzo, AMD's corporate vice president and general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. We applaud the success of the Egyptian government's efforts to conduct a fair and open public tender process. When public authorities ensure competitiveness in their tenders for computer hardware, they get a well-adapted solution to their needs, and their citizens get good value for money."
