RABIGH, May 18, 2005 -- A recognition ceremony was held recently at Rabigh Industrial City to acknowledge the efforts of the project team and Saudi Aramco operation and support organizations in completing the East-West to Rabigh Crude Pipeline Project. Umar S. Al-Hashem, project manager, talked about the various stages of the project and the efforts put forth by team members from Saudi Aramco and contractors.
Al-Hashem also highlighted the cooperation of the East-West Pipelines and Rabigh Refinery departments in support of the Project Management team during the commissioning stage of the project. As a result, the pipeline was commissioned and put into service earlier this year. The 36-inch-diameter, 146-km-long pipeline is designed to transport 600,000 barrels per day of Arab Light crude oil from the East-West Pipeline to the Rabigh Refinery, realizing savings of millions of dollars per year. Other benefits include the reduction of Rabigh Terminal berth occupancy by 25 percent as well as a reduction in sea pollution. Saudi Arabian Saipem Limited Co. was the major contractor on the project.
