DUBAI--Jan. 19, 2011--Dubai Women's College paramedic students provided two days of workshops to train more than 30 teachers in the latest basic first aid techniques. The workshops were held at the Abu Hanifa Elementary School for Boys, in Al Quoz.
Assistant Director of the school, Mrs Fouziya Mohammed recognized the need for staff to learn how to deal with common childhood emergencies such as broken bones, burns, choking and nose bleeds. "I am very happy with the event, and would like to see more training like this in other schools", said Mrs. Mohamed.
The sessions incorporated both theory and practical work, and included how to deal with fractures, bleeding and choking, as well as how to perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for both children and adults.
Yvette Brazier, DWC English faculty member who chaperoned the paramedic team, said, "These events are extremely valuable for the paramedic students, and we welcome such opportunities. It helps them build their confidence as they prepare for their future careers."
The DWC students were recently awarded their State of Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) qualification, and will graduate with full paramedic qualifications in June 2012.
The Dubai Women's College paramedic program started in 2003 in partnership with Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS) and since 2007 has graduated 45 Emirati paramedics who are employed by the Dubai Police and Dubai Corporation of Ambulance Services.
