Sales growth of 620% confirm that region is putting greater scrutiny on existing fire and lightning protection infrastructure and heading closer toward international standards.
Dubai, October 27, 2008: Demand for world-class fire and lightning protection systems in the region will grow exponentially and may lead to legislature changes - says Sonjib Banerjee, Technical Director, Duval Messien, at the inaugural ceremony of its regional head quarters in the Dubai Airport Freezone. In just over two years, the company has seen a six hundred and twenty per cent (620%) growth in sales emanating from both new construction, and upgrades of older construction across all emirates, and the GCC.
Growth spearheaded by standardization of regulations and increased accessibility to international safety solutions
Explaining the upswing over the last two years, Banerjee cited that increased accessibility to more cost effective long term safety solutions as a key driver, now that implications of maintenance becomes a larger legal concern. Duval states that the spate of electrical-related fires is valid cause to re-look at maintenance needs of earthing pits in arid and extremely hot countries, particularly in public spaces such as shopping malls, hospitals and the like. On the issue of lightning protection, he clarified the misconception that lack of rainfall meant no risk, stating that in any city with high density of high-rises lightning protection is key. He also added, "In both instances the problem is compounded if rescue services are not always able to attend due to road congestion, common in many key cities around the globe". The issue he said then was to offer buildings and their occupants, the best known technology based on international best practices. Banerjee is also encouraged by the government's initiative of standardizing legislature across all emirates, which would likely bring greater clarity to all parties including designers, developers, facilities management companies, and the end-user.
Duval Protects DEWA Headquarters
Duval systems now protect the prestigious Burj Dubai, Raffles Hotel in Dubai, International City, government-owned facilities in Ras al Khaimah, and Royal palaces in Oman. Its latest assignment is for Tijara Town- Phase 1 and a hospital by Department of Health and Medical Services at Hatta, Dubai. Duval also protects the DEWA headquarters.
Banerjee added, "Just as regulation of real estate finance is under greater scrutiny to ensure progress in that industry, we will now see changes to the safety and maintenance protocols intensify. Standardization based on international best practices and learnings is always a sign that progress is underway."
