Visiting delegation commends vision & economic role of multimodal aviation & logistics platform
A high-level government delegation from Singapore led by H.E. Josephine Teo, Minister of State for Finance and Transport, this week visited Dubai World Central (DWC), the 140 square kilometer multi-phased urban infrastructure development reflecting Dubai's commitment to diversification and sustainable economic growth.
The Singaporean delegation - which included 14 officials from the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, and the Changi Airport Group - were given an exclusive tour of DWC which includes the Al Maktoum International Airport and presented the vision for Dubai Aviation City, a 4.88 square kilometer area being developed as an economic platform for Dubai's aviation industry.
The delegates viewed their visit as a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge and discuss the similarities between the business and investment environments of Dubai and Singapore. They commended DWC's capabilities as a multimodal platform for enhancing cooperation between Singapore and the UAE in aviation and other key sectors such as logistics and trade. They added that DWC's strategic location makes it a valuable springboard towards the region's other thriving markets.
"The DWC is a bold vision for an integrated hub that provides multimodal links, not only for passengers but also cargo. It demonstrates strong leadership with a clear vision and plan." said H.E. Teo.
The group complimented Al Maktoum International Airport's exceptional ability to handle huge volumes of freight per year. It also admired the pioneering concept of Dubai Logistics City (DLC), a part of DWC that is expected to emerge as the world's first logistics platform supporting all transport modes.
"The Singaporean delegation was comprehensively briefed on the scope, planning and objectives of DWC. We highlighted our ongoing success in building up Dubai's vital role as a developmental hub for the region. We assure Dubai's global partners that we are putting the right elements in place to meet their business needs and optimize their operations," said Rashed Bu Qara'a Chief Operating Officer, Dubai Aviation City Corporation.
"The positive response from the Singaporean delegation affirms how DWC is maturing into a state-of-the-art business and investment center for Dubai, the UAE and the region. The results of this visit also affirm how DWC is highly attuned to the unique needs of the regional and global markets," added Bu Qara'a.
Located in Jebel Ali, Dubai World Central is recognized as the world's first 'aerotropolis'. Dubai World Central has been developed to meet the present and future needs of Dubai's aviation, trade, and logistics sectors, and complements the Dubai Government's plans to leverage the emirate's geographical location and remain a premier commercial hub and a gateway to the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA) markets.
