'Dubai Under Snow' theme attracts 64,000 visitors to chilly zone

Dubai, August 11, 2004: Winter fun and Dubai summers have become synonymous, thanks to the Ice City set up in the West Hall of Dubai Airport Expo as part of Dubai Summer Surprises. And with DSS 2004 winding to a close in two weeks, increasing numbers of children are visting the special zone to get a blast of chill before the 'Dubai Under Snow' theme melts away for another year.

Abdulla Al Hajiri, Head of the Ice Surprises Organising Committee responsible for the Ice City, said, "The number of visitors to Dubai Under Snow has touched 64,000 since the Ice City opened on June 24 as part of Ice Surprises week."

He further remarked that Dubai Under Snow has achieved a higher success rate this year in comparison to all the past years. "Dubai Under Snow is the only city that offers an artificial icy zone, where visitors can escape the summer heat of Dubai," he said.

DEWA organisers expect those numbers to rise considerably in the next fortnight, as children stream in daily for a last chance to ride the snow slides, pelt each other with snowballs and do other icy stunts around snow-covered Dubai monuments.

The City also plays host to Ice-Carving competitions, where professionals from all over the globe showcase their skills; a play zone with Bumper Cars and Bungee Jumping games; Ice Challenges; separate playgrounds for children and toddlers; and the Splashy and Sparky Club. The Ice City and the Fun Zone are open from 3pm to 10pm everyday.

Dubai Summer Surprises 2004 is currently in Back-2-School Surprises week organised by the Department of Economic Development from August 12-18, and ends with the Colour Surprises by the Department of Health and Medical Sciences from August 19-27, 2004.
