Over 150 service providers from eight industry clusters to attend MSE 2010, targeting developing markets in West Asia

Dubai, 11 April 2010: Her Highness Sheikha Lubna Al Qassimi, the UAE Minister of Foreign Trade and Honourable Mustapa Mohammed, the Minister of international Trade and Industry, Malaysia will officiate the opening of the third Malaysia Services Exhibition - MSE 2010 - at the Dubai International Conventions and Exhibitions Centre (DICEC) on Tuesday, the 13th of April.

Over 150 establishments will attend the event, looking at closer engagement with the West Asian markets, specifically in eight service clusters - Professional services, Oil & Gas; Construction; Information & Communications Technology (ICT); Healthcare; Franchising; Education & Specialised Training, and Financial Services.

The three-day exhibition, running till the 15th of April 2010 at the Zabeel hall of DICEC, is being organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

Announcing the details of the event at a press conference today, H.E. Dato Yahya Abdul Jabar, the Malaysian Ambassador to the UAE, said MSE 2010 is part of Malaysia's ongoing initiative to showcase the role and success of its services sector in overseas projects, especially in the UAE and other promising markets in West Asia.

"The UAE is Malaysia's largest trading partner in West Asia, accounting for 42.1 of the total trade with the region. In 2009 total trade between Malaysia and the UAE amounted to US$4.7 billion. To date there are more than 120 Malaysian companies actively operating in the UAE, involved mainly in trading, construction and architecture," said the Ambassador.

Over the last 20 years Malaysian companies were awarded 614 projects in 49 countries worth RM85.19 billion ranging from infrastructure development to water treatment and power plants to residential and commercial complexes.

"We still believe West Asia remains economically stable with strong demand for services, despite the global slowdown. Hence we expect to receive over 5,000 visitors at MSE 2010. So far we have confirmations from trade visitors and buyers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Egypt, Syria, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Iraq and a field afar as Europe and the USA," the Ambassador added.

A key focus of this MSE 2010 will be on Malaysia's expanding capabilities in green technology, especially in construction and architecture. On the opening day MATRADE will launch a directory of Malaysian companies providing green solutions in building management, renewable energy and power generation, waste water treatment and recycling. An 'Eco Oasis' will also be part of the event.

MATRADE has tied up with various government agencies and professional associations as part of facilitating networking with key decision-makers and potential business partners during MSE 2010. The opening day of the exhibition will also host a 'World Services Forum' where cluster leaders from the construction, healthcare and ICT will speak on the capabilities of their respective clusters.

"Malaysian service providers have competed with the best in the world and have gained a reputation for their excellence in key sectors of economy. Joint ventures between Malaysian service providers are also thriving in most of the developing markets. MSE 2010 being held in Dubai again will build on this growth and provide businessmen from a wide geographic area to meet and network with Malaysian service providers," said Dato Dzulkifli Mahmud, Senior Trade Commissioner at MATRADE and Trade Consul of Malaysia in Dubai.
