Honours Student Volunteers for Contribution
Dubai-UAE: 12 May, 2012 - Dubai Press Club hosted a special ceremony to mark the success of the 11th Arab Media Forum and Arab Journalism Awards that were organised under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.
The celebratory event honoured media students from various universities across the country for their contribution as volunteers. The gathering also acknowledged the teams from Think Up and Talents for adding a new dimension to the Arab Media Forum.
DPC's initiative to engage volunteers is in line with its efforts to promote volunteerism and community service among the youth. Participating at the largest media gathering in the Arab world has also allowed students to hone their project management skills. Student-volunteers this year witnessed introspective debates that dominate the media landscape. The experience is anticipated to help broaden their career prospects and open doors to new opportunities.
Maryam Bin Fahad said: "The remarkably strong participation at the recently concluded Arab Media Forum, particularly the presence of high-calibre media and government professionals reflects the strategic position of the platform. The participants welcomed the inclusion of the digital media and offered extremely fresh perspectives, which has made the event an exceptional success. We extend our gratitude to every stakeholder for their contribution. We particularly applaud the volunteers.
"Dubai Press Club reiterates its commitment to actively engage with the youth in the region and help nurture their innate curiosity about the world around them. Towards this end, we host an average of 60 volunteers annually to offer aspiring media professionals an experience of working in a corporate ambience and bringing them up to speed on the latest developments in the media industry. Their involvement with AMF 2012 has gone a long way in meeting our objective. We look forward to continue our interaction through a holistic calendar of events."
Themed 'Arab Media: Exposure and Transition', the 11th Arab Media Forum drew the participation of over 3,800 regional and international journalists, as well as influential decision makers, opinion leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators. In addition, the two-day event attracted nearly 40,000 online followers and participants from 45 nationalities.
In the run up to AMF 2012, Dubai Press Club released the key findings of the fourth Arab Media Outlook, providing projections for the regional media sector up to 2015. Every attendee to AMF 2012 was handed a copy of the report.
Dubai Press Club pioneers the use of latest technology for ensuring a wider dissemination of the forum's outcomes. This year, it instituted a digital reporter to broadcast the proceedings of the sessions on social media, live from the venue.
The Arab Media Forum has garnered year-on-year success through the past 10 editions, validating Dubai and the UAE's ability to host such high-profile events that draw a significant international media presence.
