DUBAI UNANIMOUSLY SELECTED FOR HOSTING AICR-2008 CONGRESS
Ms. Bogdana Voicu of Hilton Dubai Jumeirah has won the third prize in the prestigious International Receptionist of the Year Competition and bagged the David Campbell Trophy at the AICR Congress-2007 held in Tallinn, Estonia from January 17 to 21.
Nominated by the AICR Dubai Chapter to represent the emirate in the global competition, she was among the 13 contestants from different parts of the world.
Sponsored by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM, Ms. Voicu was the only participant at the 12th edition of the competition from the entire Middle East and North Africa regions.
The 2007 Congress of Amicale Internationale des Chefs de Reception et Sous Directeurs des Grand Hotels or Association of Front Office Managers (AICR) unanimously selected Dubai to host the 2008 edition of AICR annual gathering, outbidding strong contenders like France and New Zealand. More than 350 hotel professionals will be attending the next year's gathering.
The DTCM Director General, Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem, expressed happiness at the winning of the coveted trophy by the Dubai nominee and the unanimous selection of Dubai to host the AICR-2008 Congress.
He said: "The two developments reflect well on Dubai's booming tourism industry in general and hotel sector in particular. The participation in the competition and the bid to the host the annual gathering of hotel professionals were just the stepping stones towards achieving many more milestones in the future."
Dubai opened the AICR chapter under the aegis of DTCM in 2005 to nurture the entrepreneurial skills of front office and rooms managers of hotels in the emirate. The main aim of the foundation is to groom young talent and create a pool of young receptionists who will raise the standard of custom services at Dubai's rapidly increasing five-star properties. Since then, it has been participating in the AICR Congress for the David Campbell trophy.
A Dubai delegation headed by Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot, DTCM Manager Human Resources and Training Solutions, and comprising of AICR Dubai Chapter officials, attended the AICR-2007 Congress. The week-long selection process for the David Campbell Trophy includes a panel interview and a mock on-job presentation. Dubai nominee outperformed participants from Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, Belgium and France to bag the distinction.
