First high level UAE trade mission to the CIS region discusses investment promotion and opening up of direct flights with Kazakhstan

Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan: Dubai's economic model and experience in organising international exhibitions to add value to Kazakhstan

Dubai, UAE: The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry delegation comprising of 25 top UAE business leaders visited Kazakhstan during the first leg of the CIS Regional Trade Mission from June 2 to 5.

H.E. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, headed the Dubai Chamber delegation interested in strengthening trade ties with their Kazakh counterparts as the delegation met H.E. Kairat Kelimbetov, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, and H.E. Asset Issekeshev, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technologies.


The trade mission discussed facilitation of trade through direct flights between Dubai and Kazakhstan, easing of visa procedures and enhancing of bilateral cooperation in vital economic sectors like transport, trade, tourism, natural resources, energy, construction, tourism, agriculture and food processing which Dubai companies specialise in and can offer their experience and know-how.

During his meeting with H.E. Kairat Kelimbetov, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan in Astana, H.E. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber, stated that Kazakhstan as the first destination into CIS was chosen after extensive studies which clearly show the investment potential the country holds and promises to foreign investors.

H.E. Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, welcomed the on-going negotiations of opening of direct flights by flydubai and their Kazakh counterparts as he said that this, as well as the easing of visas, will play an important role in the smooth flow of people and goods between the two countries as the UAE businesses are keen to establish strategic partnerships with the Kazakh business community.


On his part, H.E. Kairat Kelimbetov, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, expressed his country's willingness to cooperate and benefit from Dubai's model of development and the emirate's expertise in hosting global exhibitions and events in the wake of Astana's hosting of Expo 2017.

In another meeting with H.E. Asset Issekeshev, Kazak Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technologies, the minister informed about the importance of the Customs Union which connects the country to Russia and Belarus and with its common border with China, alone, offers access to 10 million people which can benefit Dubai.

He also highlighted the presence of 10 industrial free zones which he said offered excellent investment opportunities for UAE businesses in the areas of oil and gas, petrochemical industries, tourism, construction, mining, textile, trade and logistics, IT and innovation.

The Kazakhstan-UAE Business Forum 'From Dubai to the CIS' attracted 120 participants and was followed by over 50 one-to-one meetings and had presentations by KAZNEX INVEST and Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry officials who also highlighted the country's preparations for hosting Expo 2017 in Astana.

The delegation visited the various free zones and the Palace of Independence where they were shown a huge prototype of the city of Astana in 2030 and its development over the years.
